147. Closure

Vampire Council Headquarters,
Bridgeport, present day...
Thornton was pleasantly surprised when he returned to Bridgeport to find he was a grandfather for the third time.
"Did you see them?" He asked Celina over and over and she kept telling him no, she hadn't seen the babies yet, but Krisis was on his way to see him.

"Did he say what it's about?" He turned to his PA as he shrugged off his jacket and draped it on the armchair.
"No he didn’t. But it sounded urgent, that’s why I had to squeeze him in this evening. Here's the copy of their album you ordered," Celina dropped the After Dark disc and his mug on the coffee table.
They talked for a while. Thornton updated her on the new laws the human government wanted to bring into effect quite soon. He wasn't pleased with one in particular, the law forbidding Vampires from turning humans.

Mortals were worried that their race was on the brink of extinction; they'd seen a rise in human/vampire relationships over the years, resulting in an abnormally high number of humans choosing eternity.

But it wasn't just the threat of extinction that worried the humans; they’d also observed a steady decline in their economic growth, productivity and sustainability. With more mortals being turned, it meant they were becoming contributors in the vampire society and what once went into sustaining the mortal economy was now being poured into the Vampire community.
Thornton understood the humans' dilemma, and he was all for the bill, but only after Krisis turned Leigh. Until then he'd oppose it every chance he got.
"I think you should tell Krisis. You are running out of time, you can't keep stalling the humans," Celina cautioned as she draped herself on the edge of his desk, she crossed her legs, exposing a pair of long, well tanned legs.

Thornton ignored her and her legs. She was right though, Krisis needed to know. But the boy hated him, couldn't even stand being around him, his contempt had shown clearly the last time he was in his office to pick up his twin.

Once again, he was filled with despair when he remembered Krisis’ anger that evening and Krimsyn’s overwhelming sadness. He sighed as he got up from the couch to check his e-mails. Celina turned to him, concern written in her eyes.

He shook his head; he didn't want to get into it with her.

Celina nodded her dark head, she wouldn’t push. “I have to get started on the report,” she excused herself.
As soon as he was alone he ripped the After Dark cover and popped the CD in his drive. He wasn't disappointed. Like their previous albums, his kids had outdone themselves. It wasn’t long before he was dancing around his office, singing along to So Epic It Hurts.
Almost twenty minutes later, he was still enraptured by the After Dark album he completely missed the knock on his door.

Krisis walked in. Thornton froze and smiled sheepishly at his son, he’d been caught playing air guitar.
“You are a fan?” A shocked Krisis commented, trying to hide own smile.

“You could say that. What can I do for you? Celina said it’s urgent,” Thornton replied and turned off the music.
He took a seat, and gestured for Krisis to join him.

Krisis hesitated for a second, an internal debate going on in his head. But then he shrugged his shoulders and wordlessly made his way to the couch.
“Leigh wanted you to have this,” Krisis took out a colorful package from the gift bag, and passed it to his father.
Thornton took it and shook it for a bit. “Is it a bomb?” He cracked a smile, Krisis laughed, a loud, tense sound.
“I wanted to stick one in but Leigh stopped me. It’s framed pictures of the kids. Leigh thought you’d like them. Anyway, I consider my debt paid now,” Krisis told him as he prepared to leave.
“Is that all?” Thornton asked as he returned the box inside the gift bag. His voice was laced with disappointment and a hint of something one could only describe as desperation.

Krisis went rigidly still; a small droplet of cold sweat ran down his spine. Of course it wasn’t all. But where the heck would he start?
“You could have asked a messenger to drop this off, you know,” Thornton pointed out from his chair.

Krisis tensed, hating the man once again. He was right. He could have.
“Did you rape her?” He asked suddenly as he turned back from the door. He watched his father’s face carefully for any hint of deceit and lies, but there was none when Thornton finally spoke.
“No. I did a lot of things, lied to her and deceived her. But I never raped her.  I loved your mother. And I’d like to believe in her own way she loved me too. “

“Okay,” Krisis sighed, releasing the long breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding till that moment.
“My only crime was not telling your mother from the start I was a Vampire. Back then things were different; society wasn’t as accepting then as it is now. We’ve come a long way as race and a nation Krisis. I won’t bore you with a long lesson in history; after all you’ve experienced some of our evolution yourself. The point is, when your mother found out I was a Vampire she was understandably disappointed, scared and angry. Her parents would have disowned her. Hell, the whole town would have probably killed her if they knew she’d willingly slept with me. So she did what she thought was right. She lied to her parents, and her lies were the only truth you ever knew.”
“Why didn’t you tell us? Why didn’t you claim us as your kids? Why didn’t you tell Grandma Lily it was all lies?” Krisis demanded as he fell wearily on the sofa and cradled his head in his hands.

“And risk all our lives? Risk your lives? Other than your grandparents, no one else knew you were Vampires. Do you think if they knew you’d still be alive?” Thornton’s eyebrows furrowed questioningly at him and when Krisis didn’t reply, he continued.
“Soon after Margaret left home, I had a little discussion with Lily. I compelled her not to tell anyone about what you were. I knew caring for two vampire babies would be hard on her, so I stuck around and helped her out from afar. Your every need was catered for, but Lily didn’t know where it all came from because I’d compel her to forget our meetings.” Thornton explained. He was now standing in front of the window, gazing at the bridge and the panoramic view of the city beyond.
“How could anyone not know what we were?” Krisis wanted to know.

“The rings,” Thornton murmured, waving his hand to show off his own ring. “They are family heirlooms, enchanted to make us pass for humans. We no longer need them now that we are in Bridgeport, living openly among humans.”
“Why did you have to compel Lily? Why couldn’t you tell her the truth about Margaret, why couldn’t you tell her she’d lied?”

“Because she was the light of their lives and I wanted them to remember her as the perfect daughter they thought she was. In a way I felt guilty for having deceived her, so I allowed her this one lie. If I knew how much hurt and pain it would cause down the line I wouldn’t have let it get this far. I’m sorry.”
Krisis hovered near the desk, watching his father walk back to the window, he was drawn to it somehow, the view beyond. One thing they had in common.

He knew he probably shouldn’t be so trusting and take Thornton’s word at face value, but he prided himself on being a good judge of character and he knew his father was telling the truth.
As they both let the silence in the room engulf them, Krisis realized it didn’t matter what had happened between then and now, why his father didn’t claim them, why he didn’t try to have some sort of relationship with them. It didn’t matter that he’d grown up without a father, after all millions of kids were raised by single parents everyday and they turned out okay.

All he’d ever wanted was to know he wasn’t a consequence of rape. He wasn’t a result of some sick encounter in some dodgy alley. And he knew that now. And the relief he felt at that was boundless. He wanted to break down and cry and celebrate. But he wouldn’t. Not in front of Thornton at least.
“I know it’s too much to ask, but I pray and hope that one day you’ll find it in your hearts to forgive me,” Thornton turned slightly from the window to look at him. The sincerity in his voice almost killed Krisis, but he hardened his heart, he wasn’t ready to play happy families.

He put up his hand, ignoring his father’s apology. He didn’t want to hear any more. He’d gotten what he’d always wanted. Closure.

“I have to go,” he mumbled as he moved away from the desk.
“You still didn’t tell me what you came for,” Thornton reminded him.

“It doesn’t matter now. It’s not your problem.” Krisis cried harshly, suddenly wondering what the man wanted from him.

“It’s the triplets isn’t it?” Thornton stopped him in his tracks.

“How did you know?”
“They are hybrids. Better, stronger and more powerful than either parent,” Thornton replied with a hint of pride in his voice.

“You make it sound like it’s something to be proud of,” Krisis barked.

“Isn’t it?” His father threw back at him. Without waiting for his reply he proceeded to ask him about the triplets’ abilities.
“Kristian has this fire thing going on. We think Azalea manipulates electricity somehow and Ariel moves things with her mind and she has premonitions.” Krisis replied.
He crossed the room again and sat down on the couch. He didn’t know he was silently crying in his hands until he felt Thornton squeeze his shoulder.

“They are normal. It’s expected of kids of mixed races. Tell Leigh to stop beating herself over this. If it bothers you so much, a gene specialist can take care of it,” Thornton walked over to his desk and scribbled a name and telephone number on a post-it note.

“Thank you.” Krisis took the note and stuffed it in his pocket…

  1. Awesome chapter! The emotion you wove into their conversation was amazing. At least Krisis knows how he really came to exist. I really hope they do not use the gene specialist and let the triplets keep their powers. Who knows, one day they may need them.

  2. Absolutely amazing! I loved that Krisis cried, so emotional!

  3. OH WOW, WOW, WOW. I'm so glad I refreshed the page when I did. Everything is unfolding rather unexpectedly. Triplets? Powers? Unexpected, but very.... bad-ass. It's a nice twist to things. I also find myself growing fond of Thorton. He's not as strict and inhumane as I thought he was. I especially liked the part of him dancing to After Dark. It cracked me up because I wasn't really anticipating that.

And I hope Leigh and Krisis stop beating themselves up. They have four kids to care for now. They need all the energy they can wrap their arms around. And who knows, these "powers" could lead to good things. But on the other side, I guess I can understand where they are coming from. If I walked in on some toddlers lighting fires, manipulating electricity, and making objects float I would be really freaked out.

Gosh, I love this story so much. I know you probably hear it often, but ugh... I can't even express how attached to Krisis I am.

Oh and and and, I absolutely am on the edge of my seat just thinking of Cameron and Mickey. We haven't seen them in the last couple of chapters so I wonder what they're up to. They're the forbidden couple you can't help but cheer for.

P.S.: I miss freaking out about babies in every one of my comments so just for old time's sake: BABIES VAL. BABIESSSSS. <3

  4. Dem, thank you! It was a weird chapter for me to write, I'm glad you think it turned out okay. Yes, finally Krisis has the closure he's always wanted. Maybe it's time to change his name now :-) Krisis doesn't want to tamper with the kids' abilities, but since it worries Leigh so much, the decision may be up to her. We'll see in a few chapters what she decides. Thanks for reading.

  5. I'm a firm believer that parents underestimate the influence and affect that they have on their children. I mean seriously, when you grow up thinking you were a product of rape, how can you not be screwed up? I'm really glad to see Krisis finally find closure and answers from his dad, who looks great for his age by the way! lol It has to give him some type of peace that his dad cared about his mom.

Now that he has his own children, I think that will also give him a different perspective of how he sees himself and his own parents.

    Great update!

  6. I loved this moment between father and son. I'm glad Krysis got closure. Thorton knowing what he'd come for at the end was brill, see parents always know lol

  7. Krisis finally knows that he was not the product of a rape! I can just imagine how good it feels to know that now! Even though he knows the truth now, I can still understand his caution in fully accepting his father back into his life. It will definitely take time to build a relationship with him.

I don't know if this will make sense, but your pictures don't seem like pictures in this chapter. It was more like looking at scenes in a movie! You've gotten really good at that, Val!

  8. Yes! I hope they start being friends now <3 Hehe Awesome chapter! And I love the new layout.
I hope that Krisis can feel better about all this now. Thornton seems so...Nice. I really hope they can start being a little family :) <3

    Can't wait for next chapter!

  9. Wow...I didn't think it was possible for Thorton to look any hotter, yet you managed to pull it off!!!!

Now to that warm father/son moment. I'm glad he told him the truth finally. It's a little late, but Thorton kept his distance for a good reason. I kinda like the guy :).

It's normal well that's good and he knows how to help. He does need to tell Krisis about his time limit for Leigh. Although Krisis might try and stall to use it to his advantage since he doesn't want to turn her anyway.

    Great update!

  10. Awwww!!! Thorton's being a daddy!!! Gimmie one good reason why I can't have his hotness and be Krisis and Krymsyn's step mom?

  11. Sweet chapter. Loved how krysis finally got his answer and believes Thorton. I also like how willing Thorton is to helping them. But he needs to tell his son soon about what the humans want. Keep up the great work.

  12. I was very happy to see an update :)
I was a little worried there for Thornton's laissez faire'ish manner, but I know there are depths in him that haven't been revealed yet. I wonder how that will affect Krisis once he realises. Thornton seems to be quite a complex character.

The pictures - pic 3 is fantastic. The use of the mirror is intriguing. And Krisis catching Thornton when Thornton's guard was down - hahaha. The pic is great. And the gift. Look how gently he holds the box. The picture following "My only crime" - to me reflects the struggle that Krisis would be feeling after realising the truth that he knew wasn't a truth. And the pic of Krisis following “You make it sound like it’s something to be proud of" has such impact with the words before and following. That has to be my favourite. To me, it shows a small resignation, Krisis knows the truth now, and he has let his guard down. (and he looks really really - really - nice at that angle!)

What bothered me a little was that it seemed so easy. Thornton's such a dolt for keeping the secret even after being confronted by Krisis over and over. But perhaps Thornton knew that Krisis would not hear him even if Thornton told him earlier.

The mixed races statement has me thinking that Thornton knows a bit more about the babies than Krisis does.

I am so looking forward to watching their relationship unfold.

  13. Maddie, Krisis can get a little emotional sometimes, it's been a rough few weeks for him since discovering the trips abilities. Thanks for reading!

  14. Brookeshire,

*hugs* I'm also glad you refreshed when you did. Yes, their lives are changing rather too quickly. The trips abilities may sound bad ass, but they are terrifying for Leigh. You are right about Thornton, he isn't as harsh as everyone around him seems to think he is, he does love his kids, but I think we'll agree he has a very strange way if showing it, a large part if it though boils down to the way his relationship with Krisis' mother turned out.

That's true, Leigh and Krisis will need to focus all their energy on their triplets. Krisis doesn't mind the abilities so much, but Leigh coming from a normal background is struggling to come to grips with everything.

Aw, stop, you'll make me cry. And you know I'm a fan of you work, I always get sims 2 envy whenever I read your legacy!

LMAO! And I thought Tamsyn was crazy, you and her will have to wrestle each other for the "crazy" award. The babies are a headache, trust me.

    Thanks so much for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  15. tommiegirl, I agree with you completely about parents and their influence on their kids. Krisis' lack of trust stems from that, and so does Krimsyn's abondonment issues. It's something they have to work through and hopefully now that Krisis knows the truth, some adjustments will be done.
True, it's a huge weight off his shoulders, he knows the truth, but he also knows it doesn't change the past and because of his relationship with his parents, or lack of, he's determined to be a better parents than they were.

Thanks so much for all your feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  16. lckygrl,

Yes, it was about time Krisis got answers and the closure he needed. Thornton knows a whole lot than he lets on. But he won't force his worldly knowledge on his kids, his relationship with them is still way too fragile.

    Thanks for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nedra,

That's so true, the relief he feels is indescribable, he's waited for so long to hear the truth. Exactly, they may have talked things through, but their relationship is far from being healthy and okay. Krisis is still vulnerable, and if he does let Thornton in, it will purely be because of Leigh and the kids.

Wow, thank you, that's the nicest compliment I've ever received for my pictures.

Thanks so much for all your feedback.

  18. Rose,

Yes, finally the closure you and Krisis wanted.

I got tired of the old layout and I'm still not completely happy with this one. I'll be tearing down some things, and adding some. We'll see, but for now it's a work in progress.

Krisis feels relieved now that he knows the truth, but he's far from forgiveness, and I doubt that Thornton will be joining them at family dinners anytime soon.

    Thanks for reading.

  19. Jaz,

LMAO. You and Pixx seem to have the same taste in men, she's crazy about Luca and Thornton too.

Yes, the father/son moment was unexpected, but I honestly think it would have gone any differently if it had been planned, it was about time they both talked things through. His reasons for staying away are valid but they stil don't change the past and erase Krisis and Krimsyn's pain.
But knowing they weren't a result of some traumatic experience is enough for Krisis. That's all he's ever wanted.

Yes, it appears the kids' abilities are nothing "wow" after all, it's expected of them, something else that's worrying the human government, all the hybrids cropping up and what threat they may pose to the two races with their special abilities. Thornton does need to tell Krisis, but with their relationship being so fragile, he doesn't have the guts to tell him to make such a life changing decision, though it's for Krisis' own good, Thornton doesn't have a right, and he feels if does push it with Krisis, he'll be overstepping some mark. But they are all running out of time.

    Thanks and thanks for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Pixx,

LOL. Who would have known he had it in him to be caring? You're still on that. Well a good reason is Luca, who'll give Cadence a run for her money if you're tied down to Thorny?

    Thanks for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anna,

Thanks. I don't do sweet often, so I guess it's a refreshing change. True, it was about time Krisis got all his answers, he's been carrying that weight for so long, it was really starting to get septic. You're right, Thornton needs to tell Krisis, but at this point he really can't overstep the mark, already Krisis doesn't like the idea of turning Leigh, and if Thornton steps in he'll feel like he's being pushed into something he doesn't want, by someone who has no right to tell him how to live his life.

    Thanks for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fae,

    *hugs*

Been a while since we talked!

I'm glad you still get excited to see an update.

True, there are layers to him we haven't seen, and one of them being the capacity of his love for his kids. Initially his antagonistic attitude towards Krisis really stemmed from his own failed relationship with Margaret, a bit of envy and jealousy too, he saw a lot of himself in Krisis, both being in love with humans, etc, and he was a little daunted and perplexed that Leigh seems to love Krisis wholeheartedly whereas Margaret discarded him and his kids the first chance she learned he was a vampire. Their relationship is complex and unhealthy to say the least, but he's always loved his kids despite his questionable actions.

I think Krisis has seen that his father is multilayered and almost humane, he wasn't expecting to walk in on him and find him dancing and singing along to their album, so seeing him relaxed, in his element, has shown Krisis another side to his father and he will struggle to reconcile this new side, to the "asshole" he knows.

Thanks. And for once I didn't struggle with the poseplayer and it wasn't much of a headache taking these shots.
The picture where he accepts the gift, says more than words could have ever described, I think. Having framed pictures of his grandkids, is probably the most thoughtful, considerate and most precious gift he's ever received and the tenderness with with he accepts the gift encompasses all his emotions I think. I'm glad you picked up on that.
And you're right about the pictures, I couldn't have put it better, and yes, in that pic of Krisis, there is a hint of resignation and a sad, queit acceptance on his part. That scene, when he allows himself to be vulnerable in front of Thornton was profound for me. He hates Thornton, and he knows he shouldn't let down his guard, and the only reason he does, is because of his kids, his love for them pushed him to reach out to his father, and it pushed him to humble himself and for once be civil to the man. If it wasn't for Leigh and the kids, I doubt that their talk would have been so easy and so drama free. But there comes a time, when a man has to put his pride aside and do what's right for the kids, and that's exactly what Krisis did here, after his talk with Leigh he realized that perhaps Thornton does know something about their family and he could help with the triplets.
Thornton on the other hand, was already open to working things out with his kids before leaving Bridgeport, so his willingness to talk and Krisis' silent cry for help made their much anticipated talk more smoother. I hope I explained my view okay, the last time I tried it didn't end so well.

But I'm with you, their talk was easy, but neither man believes their relatioship will be too.

Thornton knows a whole lot more than he told Krisis about kids of mixed races. After all, his own kids are hybrids too.

Thanks so much for reading and your feedback, and for allowing me the oppornity to sift through my thoughts on Krisis and Thorton.

  23. Gene specialist? Sounds kinda nasty. Don't know why. haha
I loved that Thorton and Krisis finally had a real conversation. I hope they can grow closer now.
Leigh has every reason to worry. I can't wait see how this continues!

    ReplyDelete
  24. so I was reading over your responses and that's true Krisis and Krimson are hybrids but they don't seem to have any special powers???? Is this a new development?

Interesting...something for me to ponder on LOL

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lol, Jaz, so you do come back to read my responses :-)
Yes, they are hybrids, and their lack of abilities has a lot to do with what
Thornton didn't tell Krisis when he gave him the details of the gene specialist. This will be addressed in the next few chaptets.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Dutchy,

Yeah,I agree, it's good that they finally had that talk. But the two of them getting closer we'll have to see about that. True, Leigh has reason to worry, when Krisis goes on tour she'll be on her own so they need to learn as much as they can about their abilities now, before he leaves.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha, Thornton was caught enjoying his sons music. I guess that's to be expected though, but it was funny, It also kinda signified that things between the two can be a little easier now. They don't see each other as enemies and that their enemies are elsewhere.

I hope the triplets keep their powers, who wouldn't want special powers :O

    ReplyDelete
  28. Aeon,

welcome back. Yeah, who would have guessed he's a fan of K-Infinity? LOL. I know right, I thought it was funny too. Yes, definitely, now that they've had their talk and Krisis has seen that he's not the ass he made them think he was, the animosity between them should ease some.

Leigh wouldn't want them to keep their powers. But I know what you mean, I'd want to be a superhero.

    Thanks for reading.

  29. Yay finally season 5 , now my summer is complete!!!
I really like how it starts and i hope the triplests interesting powers dont cause serious struggle Among Krisys and Leigh. Btw dont they know any other solution but sex?! :) i like how krisys can now know that he wasnt unwanted, that there was love in his making and this sure will bring him peace but even more to krymisin who always brought that up!! Haha .
    Interesting, reinvented and entretainlingly brilliant

  30. GirlyGirl,

    Welcome back!

Now that Krisis knows there's a solution, I imagine things will be smoother between him and Leigh. No, it would seem they don't, but in the previous chapter it wasn't about a solution, they were reconnecting with each other. True, it has given him the peace he's always wanted. Krimsyn too.

    Thanks for your feedback.

  32. I think the previous comment was for the last chapter.. whoops (copy and paste error) :o

I think they should see a gene specialist... why won't Thorton tell him about the new laws they were going to introduce. I love how they're both family men.. yet they have different ways of showing it. I'm glad Krisis finally knew the truth even though it took ages. Very well written, Valpre.. i loved the emotionally impact throughout and your shots just added another value to that.

  33. I loved the witty banter between Thornton and Krisis and I was glad Krisis could find a little humour in his father’s air guitar skills (or lack of?)
While I’ve resigned to the fact that they will never be completely ok with each other, I am happy to see Krisis showing a little more tolerance toward Thornton. In fact, this could lead to many more steps forward in their relationship. I just want to see one big happy family ^_^
Great chapter! The emotions were captured wonderfully.
