________
Bridgeport, present day...
The next morning, Leigh padded into the kitchen and found the band and Michaela already seated around the breakfast nook, snacking on plasma juice and fruit. Lily was no where in sight, evidently she was still sleeping in the nursery.
Leigh sighed disappointedly when she saw Krisis wasn’t around, convinced he was still at the Council’s headquarters. Instinctively she knew something was wrong, and his absence intensified her fears all the more.
Michaela looked up from her juice pack, and squealed merrily as she leapt from her seat and rushed into her arms.
“Aunt Leigh, I’m so glad you’re back. We were all so worried about you. Uncle Krisis was going out of his mind. And I missed you. Guess what? Jett is old news, there’s this…” She went on and on, oblivious to her aunt’s state of discomfort.
Leigh smiled engagingly at Michaela, but her mind wasn’t on the teen’s chatter. When Krimsyn brought her to the penthouse the previous afternoon, her former student was at a friend’s house, and Leigh had gone straight to bed in Krisis’ bedroom and cried herself to sleep, so she hadn’t seen Michaela for almost three months. The young girl's clinginess was understandable, but Leigh was anxious to hear about Krisis and the Council’s decision.
“That’s great honey,” she patted Michaela’s hand, and gently eased her way from the teen’s chatter.
“Any news?” She asked Krimsyn and JD. She saw the strange look pass between them, but she didn’t say anything.
“Krisis is fine. He came home last night,” Krimsyn explained.
“And he didn’t wake me up? What did the Council say? Is it bad?” Leigh’s panicked voice rose shrilly with each passing second.
“Leigh. It’s okay. Krisis will be home soon and he’ll explain-” J.D. paused then, afraid he’d say too much.
She saw the strange look pass between him and Krimsyn again, but this time she didn’t let it go.
“Why are you all skirting around me? Why can’t you look me in the eye? What’s going on?” She cried. Krimsyn came over to her and put her arms around her, but Leigh brushed them off and stood her ground.
“What are you hiding from me?” She demanded forcefully.
J.D. felt he was way out of his depth, and he didn’t think it was their place to tell Leigh about the Council’s decision, so he led Michaela from the room, leaving Krimsyn to deal with the mess.
“The Council gave their ruling, Leigh, and it’s not bad. Krisis will be okay. You’ll both be okay,” Krimsyn murmured.
Leigh saw right through her crafty explanation. There was a lot that wasn’t said, a lot that Krimsyn wasn’t planning on telling her.
“If it’s good news, why isn’t he here? Why did he not wake me up when he got home last night? Why did he sneak off and leave me here with you?” She asked as calmly as she could muster.
Krimsyn held up her hands, it wasn’t her place to tell her more than she already had.
“He’s not here because he has to arrange Jacqueline’s memorial service. He hated her, but she was Lily’s mother,” Krimsyn justified her brother’s absence, but Leigh wouldn’t have any of it.
“Fine!” She stormed from the room.
Inside the bedroom, she quickly changed into her day clothes and collected her luggage bags and called for a taxi.
Ten minutes later, her phone rang. It was the taxi driver. He wanted to know if there was another entrance he could use. The reporters were still camping outside the main entrance. Leigh informed him there was no other way in or out, and he should wait out there, she’d be fine. She hoped she would. Moving through the throngs of deranged reporters wouldn’t be an easy feat.
“Where are you off to? You have to stay here and wait for Krisis. Those damn vultures are still outside,” Krimsyn cried.
“I’m going home. I need to be with Devon and Eloise,” Leigh replied, jabbing hard at the elevator button.
“But if Krisis…”
“I don’t care what Krisis thinks. If he cared at all he would have been here to explain everything to me!” Leigh retorted, not giving Krimsyn a chance to change her mind.
At that moment she didn’t understand Krisis and his actions. For someone who had hated Jacqueline, he was suddenly neck deep in her affairs. Clearly, arranging the green eyed witch’s memorial service was much more important than informing her of the Council’s decision…
The elevator flew open, and Krisis came out.
He looked at Leigh, and then at Krimsyn before glancing back at Leigh and her bags. Wordlessly he picked up her luggage and went back inside the lift, Leigh followed behind him.
Krisis had read her thoughts. She was pissed at him. Anything he said at that point wouldn’t matter. She was so hell-bent on going back home, to Eloise and Devon. As much as he wanted to keep her with him, he knew he’d be busy over the next few days with Jacqueline’s memorial service, and cleaning up the media mess. Taking her back to Devon’s place was the best solution. For now. Or until he had worked through his feelings about the Council’s decision.
He was too proud to admit he was afraid and feeling vulnerable, and he needed some time; and he needed her to be patient with him over the next few days. He chose to suffer in silence instead and glared straight ahead, bracing himself for the media chaos outside.
Leigh was disappointed he wasn’t begging her to stay. But she was too stubborn to tell him what was on her mind, and so she let him guide her through the reporters waiting outside and safely inside his car. He paid the waiting cab driver before he got behind the wheel.
The drive to her apartment was tense. She glanced at him a few times, and opened her mouth to say something, but she quickly closed it when his blue eyes stared back at her, the cold fury evident.
“So you were just going to leave?” He asked after a while. His voice was deceptively calm and she knew she was in trouble. What she didn’t understand though, was how their roles had changed so swiftly. He had no right to be mad at her; he was the one withholding information from her.
“I didn’t know what else to do,” Leigh replied in a small voice, shrinking in her seat. “You came home, and you didn’t wake me up. You knew I was anxious to know about the ruling!”
“You were sleeping so peacefully and I didn’t want to disturb you. The past few days have been hard on you. You deserved the rest. Leigh, I’m going to be very busy over the next couple of days. I have to arrange Jacqueline’s memorial service…” His voice trailed off and she waited for more, but he didn’t say anything else.
“What did the Council say? Is everything sorted out?” She asked, feeling more in control now.
It took him a long time to reply. She felt him withdraw from her, felt him block her out. As hard as she tried to concentrate on hearing his thoughts and sensing his emotions she couldn’t. Her attempts were met by a deafening silence, threatening to drive a wedge between them.
“Why are you shutting me out?” She asked softly, a confused look in her eyes.
She waited for his answer, heard him hesitate and she knew he was thinking up lies to tell her. And all she could do was hope and wish he would change his mind and tell her the truth instead.
Her heart broke a little when he finally spoke. “I’m not shutting you out. And everything is fine. But there are some things I need to do. Things I can’t tell you about. Remember when I came to you about Vladimir, I told you about our people, and I also told you there are things I can’t tell you, things I can’t talk about? The outcome of my meeting with the Council is one of those things. I’m sorry.”
Just like that, the matter was closed, it wasn’t up for discussion. By then they’d arrived at her apartment. She slammed his car door hard when she got out, wishing it was his head she was pounding on.
“Leigh, whatever happens, know that I love you,” he murmured. She turned back and looked at him, long and hard, trying to understand the meaning behind his words.
She knew she should turn around and leave before they were both pushed into saying things they’d later regret, but her feet were rooted to the spot. She waited for him to change his mind, for him to let her in and trust her, but he stubbornly held out on her, and she was the first to give in. She walked away without a backward glance.
“You sure have a funny way of showing it, Krisis Frost, I know something’s wrong, and I wish you’d trust me. I wish you’d let me help you.” She whispered to herself, quickening her pace as she rushed inside her building...

Perfect use of the prompt word because that's exactly how I feel! I understand his reasoning for not telling her but damn I wish he'd let go of this stubborn shit! He just got her back and now there is a rain cloud hanging over them! I could shake him!
ReplyDeleteThat's all.
~ I understand Leigh's upset that she feels he is blocking her out, I would be too, but on the other hand I think that she should maybe leave well enough alone and trust Krisis.
ReplyDelete~ I sense a little childishness here in Leigh, when the going gets tough...throw a fit an leave, it's what my 3 year old does!...though understandable in her situation I suppose, but there are more mature ways she could have handled it.
~ I think that I would be a little jealous of the fact that his attention will be diverted towards Jacking...yet again...will she ever go away!?!?!? But she should be a little more sympathetic to the fact that it was Lily's mother and someone has to do it.
~ Loved it!
Qui, thanks. I understand your disappointment. He's in weird place right now, and he just wants to get through the memorial service. And maybe in a few days his head will be screwed on straight.
ReplyDeletePlease shake him!
Thanks for reading.
NyGirl,
ReplyDelete-I'm so thrilled you see both the POVs. Krisis is trying to protect her from the truth he barely understand himself, and she doesn't want to be protected. But you're right, she should trust him. There's a reason why somethings are better left alone, I guess.
-Funny you should say that, Leigh does have the childish trait. LOL. You should see her interact with Krisis sometimes. She makes me laugh. But, she was a little impatient, and childish and throwing toys around is def cute on a two year old. On the other hand, she knows he's hiding stuff from her, and everyone around her is acting strange. She'd rather be with people who won't skirt around or lie to her.
-She understands he has to arrange Jacqueline's memorial service for Lily's sake, but it still doesn't change the fact that Jacqueline robbed her of two months of her life, and altered her memory. In addition to that Jacqueline got the one thing Leigh wants so desperately, Krisis' baby. She feels cheated on so many levels, and there's a lot of anger and resentment there. But these are things she's never told a soul, not even Krisis.
And Krisis isn't exactly Boyfriend Of The Month material either. He's using Jacqueline's memorial service as an excuse to push her away, and Leigh can see right through his "not so crafty" plan.
Thanks for reading.
What a frustrating impasse for them to reach. I hope Leigh can accept his answer, that it is just something she is not going to be able to know.
ReplyDeleteSeaweedy, I highly doubt Leigh will let it go. She seems pretty determined to get to know the truth.
ReplyDelete!!!!
ReplyDelete1. Leigh is acting a little bit childish here, if something does not go the way you want it, leave. It works in the school yard but not in relationships. I found that out the hard way.
2. I wish Krisis would tell her...
3. ...than again, it makes Leigh even more pushy to be a vampire with Krisis and more determined to have Krisis' baby, which you said is she wants so desperately.
4. Jackie is old news, I found a new person to hate... but can I hate them as strong as Jackie, I mean Bea...it solved my problem with Jackie but He..It wants to hurt my Krisis... Difficult.
5. That's kinda harsh, wish it was Krisis head she was pounding on... Not Krisis beautiful face!!!
6.'Grewsome' Prompt, (I need to come up with new words)
7.:)
I AM DEFINATELY DIASPPOINTED :D
ReplyDeleteThis prompt was just exampled perfectly.. i was so looking forward to her as being a vampire. I mean she expressed it back in Barnacle Bay...
I would be stubborn if someone kept me hidden from the truth.. i mean couldn't he just tell her! She would have agreed easily and wedding bells could be heard. We still have the rest of the prompts to go...
Finally caught up too, phew!
Now i just have to be in the waiting queue...
*Slaping...some...sense..into...that...man's...
ReplyDeletethick...HEAD!
Always the hard way, Krisis. You're SUCH a man! (yet I love you still...lol!)
I totally get that he's trying to protect Leigh, because obviously, when she hears the conditions of the council, she's going to think - "problem solved...dreams come true!"
And he still wants to "save" her by protecting her humanity. I get it, but I still hate it. Every time something goes right for these two (the death of Dr. Evil) something always sneaks up to snatch away their happiness.
I hope Leigh can get past her hurt at thinking he doesn't trust her, and trusts in HIM. Not knowing what he's thinking - I mean, how can she not take that personally, but she's got to believe in his love enough to know that he wouldn't shut her out if he didn't think it was best for her.
What a hard situation for them both to be in.
...
ReplyDelete8. When Krisis was in the elevator, I don't how long must be a good 5 minutes, all I did was stare, I don't know if it was his looks or his beautiful glowing blue eyes, I don't know what I was I couldn't pull away. Until Someone knocked on my door.
9. I love the kellogg's cornflakes in the background. :). I only just noticed it.
ReplyDeleteLeah,
ReplyDelete1. She is acting irrationally, but understandably so. I would be freaked out too if my boyfriend was keeping secrets, something that could potentially affect us both. But she could have handled it differently instead of throwing her toys around.
2. He will tell her. Not just yet though, three prompts from now.
3. True, she'll want to be turned ASAP.
4. Beau? He's not done with Krisis yet. For now he has to lie low, and it may take him months, or years even, but revenge is something he plans to get.
5. Well, she can only wish. She wouldn't dare beat up on him. Then what would she look at all day if his face's been rearranged?
6. I love "grewsome", don't change it.
7. Thanks for reading.
Mango,
ReplyDelete*hugs* Glad you've found your way here again. It's always great to see a comment from you.
You too? Disappointed? Hopefully it's not long before he comes back to his senses. He will tell her, but he sees no point since his position on turning her hasn't changed, and he doesn't want to have kids with her because it's what the council suggested.
It feels great doesn't it, being caught up. That's how I feel when I go through a marathon of playing catch up.
Thank you, so, so much for your continued support.
Jill,
ReplyDeleteLOL. That's so true. I can just see Leigh jumping up and down like Tom Cruise did on Oprah's couch. She'll def push for him to turn her :D.
Hopefully they don't break your heart for too long :(.
Leigh will get past her hurt, and when has she's going after him, and he won't know what hit him. She'll give him time to sort out his ish with Jacqueline's memorial service, but after that she won't play games.
The weird part is Michaela recognizes Leigh as her "aunt" and Leigh sees her as her "niece" even though she and Krisis are just girlfriend and boyfriend. But Lily doesn't see Leigh as her step-mom, and Leigh doesn't see her as her step-kid. I wonder how that works :-/.
Michaela and Leigh will get their old relationship back. This would have been mentioned in a later prompt, but after their last run in with the media and the law, and seeing how it affected Michaela at school, JD and Krimsyn decided to home school her again, and Leigh graciously accepted the job offer.
Thanks for reading.
Leah, LMAO. So the K factor got you...You were hopelessly in love with him from the start. I promise, once I wrap up Krisis, I'll upload him just for you :)
ReplyDeleteIt may be a while yet though :)
And the Kellogg's clutter, I love it too. Let me know if you want it, or any clutter you may have seen in Krisis for that matter, and I'll put up the links.
Aaaaw...Krisis should trust her more! I guess it's in her best interests really that he's not burdening her and all that knight protecting her from hard stuff but...I think Leigh would be happier knowing what's happening to him.
ReplyDeleteOMG now that I know that Thornton is his and Krymsins daddy and the history of their mother was so sad...I kinda wish he had never told her, just like maybe married her and then told her like ten years into their marriage.
It was really sad...And poor thorny! I feel so sorry for him! How could their mother do that?! Just cos he's a vampire...Sad facing!
I should have wrote most of that on the previous chapter.
I hope everything gets better for them and becomes perfect when they FINALLY GET THEMSELVES INTO A SHARING RELASHIONSHIP KRISIS! Ooooh....he had to do it the tough way didn't he?
Can't wait for the next chapter!!
=D
Eni, you finally caught up. Leigh would def be happier and she'd push to be turned into one them, and that's exactly why Krisis doesn't want to tell her anything.
ReplyDeleteLOL. You mean trick her into marrying him and then tell her? I like that. Pity he wanted to be a good guy and tell the truth. It's sad how it ended between them, but you can't hide something as big as that from someone you hope to be in a relationship with.
It was more than just about him being a vampire, it was the lies and the secrets that made her run the other way.
No worries :) Anywhere is fine.
Things will get better and they'll be incredibly happy. He just needs a second to breathe and digest everything that's all.
The next two prompts should be up in later today.
Thanks for reading.
I kind of felt like Leigh was bein a little brat in this prompt.
ReplyDeleteFirst, she pushes Micheala aside, who is just excited to see her, then she freaks out about Krisi not being there...
*shakes head*
Every reason he gave her for his "supposed" bad behavior was valid.
Of course, we already know he is stressed about his sentence and trying to hide it from her. Why do people in love have to be so stupid? LOL!
Holley,
ReplyDeleteTrue. Those two need to be locked up in a room and thrash out their issues. But we all know how that will end :)
She was anxious and worried, and Krisis' absence intensified her fears. But she honestly didn't mean to be abrupt with Michaela.
