83. Anxious

Bridgeport, present day

While Leigh agreed to help a friend in Champs Les Sims, Eloise wished she had a friend to help her with her dilemma…

She knew she had to get out of the bathroom before Devon grew suspicious, but she just couldn’t bring herself to go out there and face him.

What would she say? How would she break the news to him?

She sat on the edge of the bath tub and looked at the pregnancy test in her hand, and she wanted to kick herself. The two blue lines scowled at her, subtly reminding her, this was what she’d wanted. She’d chased after Devon. Like a predator she’d taken advantage of him while he was still vulnerable from his break-up from Tamsyn, and she’d practically begged him to make love to her every single day these last six months. Well, almost every single day. When it’s all said and done she’d asked for it.

But they’d used protection every single time. They were careful. And that’s why she was so bitter over this. She did everything right, Devon too. So why the hell were the two blue lines glaring at her? She dropped the test beside her, and wailed like a baby, wishing Leigh was there. She’d know what to do.

Her parents wouldn't take the news well. They were just getting over her stunt of moving in with Devon, and now they’d have to deal with her having a baby out of wedlock…She was convinced they’d kill her or disown her, or both.

“Honey? Are you okay? You’ve been in there for twenty minutes. Not that I’m keeping tabs on you, but-” Devon. She drowned him out. She was pissed at him and his super sperm. Pissed at her body for welcoming it. Pissed that he’d think she was trapping him with this baby, keeping him forever tied to her. She knew how Krisis felt about Jacqueline. Surely Devon would feel the same way too.

“Eloise, if you don’t come out, I’ll break down this door!” He growled on the other side. He didn’t make threats lightly. Devon would break down the door. Gingerly, she got up from the tub, and unlocked the door.

“What’s wrong?” He asked with concern in his eyes. He’d seen her cry lots of times in the past few weeks. Most times it was for Leigh. But he’d never seen her so miserable. And for a crazy second he was afraid something was seriously wrong between them.

She threw the pregnancy test at him. He looked at it, not sure what it was supposed to be. He’d never seen one in his life.

“Nice,” he mumbled, but the angry scowl on her face told him it wasn’t nice.

“Nice? I’m pregnant and you think it’s nice?” Eloise screamed at him, but he didn’t mind. He hung on to the word pregnant.

“We’re pregnant?” He repeated, pulling her in his arms, awe and wonder written all over his face.

“Yes we are! I don’t know how it’s possible. But if the test is right we’re three months along. I thought I was just stressed with work, and with everything happening around here with Leigh and Krisis, and that’s why I missed my period. I didn’t suspect a thing until a friend mentioned it at work. Devon, if I knew, I would have done something sooner. I’m sorry. I--” She broke down again and cried, wishing she could pinpoint the exact moment it happened. If she could, she would go back and change it all.

“Eloise, stop!” He kissed her eyelids, before moving on to her lips. “It’s okay. I’m thrilled with the news. It would have been great to have a baby after we’re married, but it’s here now, and there’s no reason for you to cry. I love you, and I’ll be with you always.”

“You will? But Krisis--” She tried to explain her fears and worry, but Devon cut her off.

“Krisis hates Jacqueline. But I bet if it was Leigh, he would have been ecstatic.” He replied, gently trailing his hand on her flat tummy.

“So there’s a baby in there?” He asked in awe.

“Yep. There’s a little Starlington on the way. We have to tell Leigh,” she cried, excited suddenly. If Krisis couldn’t bring her home, surely the news of her pregnancy would. But first, they had to find her.
