Summary: two strangers, and a symphony performance

__________

Bridgeport, present day

“Outstanding performance, don’t you think?”

He was obviously referring to the symphony performance she’d just seen at the Theater.

She looked up into the lightest brown eyes she’d ever seen; they were unusually intense, like their owner. There was a mesmerizing, calming aura about him. Yet she felt naked…Exposed. Like he could see right through her, and all the lies she planned on saying to get rid of his unwelcome attention, her sordid pathetic life, and her fears. He was silent, but she heard his low voice in her head, calming her panicked thoughts. Instantly she knew he was a vampire.
Hell, how many of them were in Bridgeport now? It seemed everywhere she turned, there was always one, glaring at her, hunting her down.

“It was okay,” Leigh stammered, answering his question. She tapped her foot anxiously, and checked her wrist watch. Devon was late; they were supposed to catch a football game at Bridgeport’s Sports Zone.
“Would you like to go out, have something to eat?” The man asked. He flashed a quick smile, showing his fangs briefly. Surprisingly she wasn’t scared. Irritated yes, but not scared. Maybe because she’d spent so much time around the Frosts.

“Is that a yes?” He asked, raising one dark brow.

“It’s a no…I don’t have lunch with strangers,” Leigh replied coolly, hoping he’d get the hint, but he was relentless in his pursuit, and it wasn’t long before she found herself warming to him.
A small voice, somewhere at the back of her mind, told her to run as far away from him as possible, and he was more dangerous than Krisis. But the part of her blinded by his dazzling looks and charm won, and she stayed, leaning closer, smiling back at him.

He wasn’t someone she’d go for usually. She didn’t like vampires, period. Maybe a little white lie there…But before a certain vampire came into the scene, she liked her dates human. This stranger though…He was interesting. There was something about him that drew her in, pulled her closer, luring her into the darkness. It was almost as if he was…

No, she shook her head. Mind control was just pure fiction, right?

“I’m Vladimir Schlick,” He introduced himself.

“Leigh…Ashleigh Starlington.” Her gut tightened again when he took her hand and kissed it lightly.

“See, that was easy. We are not strangers anymore.” Again, Vladimir flashed his brilliant smile, fangs and all, and she found herself smiling back at him.

“So how about that lunch?”

  1. Sounds like mind control to me! I wonder...if this is some plot to get back at Krisis for Laura, how will that work out if Krisis plans to stay out of it. Again, I don't believe that! On to the next prompt :D

  2. The prospect of meeting a vampire out on the street, falling for a pick up line, and going to 'lunch' with him is hysterical! I mean, who's the lunch?

Your cityscapes are so cosmopolitan, so real. Beautiful, beautiful work!

  3. Qui, it was mind control, notice how she fleets between feelings of anxiety and utter trust in seconds. If I was her, I would have ran. He's an evil, evil man.

Krisis thinks he's trying to get back at him, but Vladimir's state of mind is much more complex than that. It's not a simple case of revenge, or getting even with Krisis. He wants his Laura, and he'll have her, never mind that 'his Laura' is really Leigh.

  4. Beth, that's so true, if I was Leigh I would have ran.

Wish I could take all the credit for the cityscape, but it's all EA. For once they did something right :)

    Thanks for reading.
