Krisis hated getting involved in his sister's business, and he would have preferred to stay out of it and let them work it out on their own, but his twin had asked him, and so had Leigh. Both were worried sick about J.D. The whole evening after he left they'd imagined all sorts of scary scenarios. So to put their minds at ease, he had volunteered to go after him. A part of him felt guilty too, though. It was a rotten thing to do, keeping something as big as Cameron and Mickey from his best friend, but with everything he'd gone through with Thornton , finding Blake, and almost losing the triplets he'd clean forgot about it. He shouldn't have.
He made sure Leigh and the kids were settled in for the night before he set out to find J.D.
For mid August it was unusually cold outside. He stood still for a moment as he sniffed the air. It smelled like snow. It was all wrong. It never snowed around this time of year.
A faint noise made him look sharply to his right at the rose bushes and sunflowers, it sounded like twigs snapping from the trees. He looked up at the tall Chinese maple tree. His eyes found nothing.
Out of nowhere, a deep feeling of dread washed over him. He looked around once more, convinced someone was watching him.
A black cat stunned him when it suddenly sprung from the tree and jumped at him, he laughed, feeling relieved that he didn't have to get into attack mode.
"Hey, so it's you? You've been checking me out, huh?" He cooed at the cat as he scratched its neck. It purred softly in his arms and closed its eyes, seemingly enjoying the feel of his hands.
“What's your name?” Krisis asked and all he got was more meowing.
“Well you'd better get on home, it looks like snow is on the way," he told the cat as he set it down.
He looked around one last time, checking that nothing was out of place, before he sprinted to his bike parked next to Leigh's SUV in the carport.
When he sped out of the driveway the cat was sitting outside the front door. He hoped it wouldn't stay long, its purring would wake the kids, and they'd get crabby, Leigh would get crabby too. And he didn't need that right now. Especially after the shitty afternoon he'd had.
The roads were quiet and Krisis guessed the strange weather was keeping everyone in doors. He was crazy for being out here; he should have been in doors too, snuggling up with Leigh. God he loved her. He'd never thought he could ever love so deeply. She completed him. He'd go crazy without her and the kids while he was on tour for the next six months.
He got depressed just thinking about their hectic schedule. As much as he was looking forward to touring again the thought of being without Leigh and the kids filled him with dread. Maybe after this he'd quit, settle down and devote more time to them. Maybe he’d even return to playing polo.
Before he could entertain the thought he was already at Aquarius. The bouncer confirmed J.D. was there, and he led him through a secret entrance to avoid his fans.
He found his best friend on the rooftop, staring mournfully at the darkening sky. Krisis saw the clouds overhead were swollen with snow or rain or maybe both.
“You shouldn't have come!” JD said without turning around to look at him.
“I know,” Krisis agreed.
He joined him on the edge of the building and looked down.
They were twelve stories high, one slip up and it would be the end of him. Leigh and the kids would be left alone.
They were twelve stories high, one slip up and it would be the end of him. Leigh and the kids would be left alone.
He could count on JD and Cameron to look after them, but he couldn't count on them to love Leigh. In fact he could never count on any man to love Leigh as much as he did. The thought sobered him up, he moved away from the ledge when he realized he wanted a good century with Leigh at the very least; he didn't want any slip ups.
He took a seat at the table and stared at J.D. He was tightly wound up, rage reeked off of him with the same intensity as the absinthe he'd drunk.
"Krimsyn’s worried about you. Leigh too. We didn't lie to you," Krisis began when it was obvious he'd have to direct this show. His friend was not willing to meet him halfway.
"You just didn’t tell me the truth," J.D. roared at him. Krisis didn't mind his tone; he thought it was good that they were talking.
“I would have.”
“When?” J.D. challenged him.
“I don't know. It doesn't matter now. I'm sorry I didn't.”
J.D. kept quiet after this. There was nothing more to say.
Krisis found himself thinking about the cat. He hoped it was gone and that it didn't wake the kids before it left.
“It's Cameron man!” J.D. growled suddenly.
“I know. I understand.”
“What if he hurts her?”
“What if he doesn't? What if he loves her better than any man Mickey will ever meet? What if he treats her better than kids her age?” Krisis threw back at him.
“What are you saying? You saying it’s okay?” J.D. jumped from the edge and paced towards him, his words were slurred.
“I'm not saying anything!” Krisis stepped back, but J.D. wouldn't drop it. He was spoiling for a fight. He grabbed the front of Krisis' t-shirt roughly and shoved him away.
Krisis saw red then, but he forced himself to calm down. J.D. was the wronged party here, not him.
“I don't know what to do,” his friend fell to the ground and wept.
Krisis felt useless as he watched him cry, he didn’t know how to help him, but he had to try, “No one is asking you to do anything. It's not up to any of us. The best thing we can do is to allow Mickey to make her mistakes.”
“I know, but it's Cam , man!”
“What exactly about Cam bothers you, and don't tell me it’s the age difference because you know that’s bullshit!”
“Don’t you get it? He's Cam the man whore! He’s probably slept with half the females in this town. How am I supposed to look at him knowing what he thinks of my child? What he has planned for my child?”
Krisis didn't have an answer to this.
J.D. drifted back to the edge and Krisis stayed right where he was, he was safe there, away from J.D.’s pain.
“You have your soccer team, Devon has Blake, who do I have? My baby girl doesn't need me anymore!”
Tears sprung in Krisis' eyes when he realized the real reason behind J.D.’s rage.
It wasn’t about Cameron, hell J.D. would have felt the just same if it was any man really. He was grieving the loss of his relationship with his child. For eighteen years Michaela had counted on him for guidance, support and protection, and he in turn had loved her fiercely, there's nothing he wouldn't do for her but now J.D. thought she didn't need him anymore and Krisis knew it had to hurt.
“Mickey loving Cameron doesn't mean she loves you any less. You are still her father. There are things only a father can do for her, like kick her boyfriend’s ass when he gets out of line, or give her away on her wedding day. There are things she will still want to talk to you about that she can't discuss with Cam because maybe those things are about Cam , and who knows him better than you and me? You still have her graduation from Uni to look forward to, her first GP practice or her album or whatever she chooses to do, don’t forget her kids too. There's so much more.” Krisis stopped talking when he thought J.D. wasn’t listening.
But he was. “Grandkids?” J.D. asked with a deep frown in his eyes. “Dude I'm still way too young to be a granddaddy.”
“'Tis true,” Krisis laughed, and he was glad to see the smile on J.D.'s face, as brief as it was.
“It's not a loss. She's not leaving you, she's just finding herself. And you need to help her do that the only way you can.” Krisis added.
“Which is?” J.D. wanted to know.
“Be there for her.”
J.D. fell silent again, mulling over his words. He took a long swig from the bottle Krisis had failed to notice until now.
“When did you get so smart?” J.D. turned to him with a smirk.
“Since I met Leigh.”
“I have hope! If you can reform maybe Cam can too. You were always the biggest slut Krisis Frost!” J.D. peered inside his bottle. It was empty now and Krisis knew what he was thinking. He wanted another drink, but he wouldn't let him.
He ignored the comment about him being a slut. But J.D. was right, and not for the first time he wished Leigh was the very first woman he’d met and fell in love with, he would have avoided a lot of shit.
“She may not be the first, but she’s certainly your last,” he reminded himself, thinking about Vanessa Williams’ song, what was it called again, Save The Best For Last? Yeah, that one! God had had a plan all along, and he'd be damned if he'd let anyone mess with His plan. Leigh couldn't die. Ariel had to be wrong.
“You can always turn her now,” J.D. spoke, shocking Krisis out if his reverie. He forgot sometimes that they could read each other’s' thoughts.
“What if it doesn't change anything?”
“It will change everything,” J.D. argued.
“I don't know. If she's stays human there’s still a chance. If I turn her now, today, and something happens tomorrow, that's it. No more chances, no bringing her back. I can't take that risk. I have one shot at this!” Krisis explained.
“I understand. Remember though you know who hates you the most.”
“What are you saying?” Krisis asked. He thought he knew, but the idea disturbed him.
“Prevention is better than cure.” J.D. replied cryptically.
“What would you do?”
“Me?” J.D. thought about it for some time. And then he finally decided. "I hate doctors, and medicines and hospitals. So I’d probably prevent any illness to avoid the cure. But what do I know?”
Krisis couldn't believe those words were coming out of his best friend's lips.
This man, drunk and bleeding from inside out, was cold and dangerous, but at that moment Krisis understood why law enforcement had wanted him back. Sometimes cold, hard logic, as ruthless as it was, was needed, and that's where men like J.D. came in.
The thought though still unsettled Krisis. In fact their whole conversation was disturbing.
It began to snow shortly after that, and Krisis found himself thinking about the kids. And Leigh.
What if this was the last snow she ever saw? Would he want to see snow again without her? Hell no!
Like J.D., he hated hospitals. And doctors. And medicines…

I'm glad he Found J.D and glad to see he is ok. Knowing your little girl is all grown up has to be hard.
ReplyDeleteIf it is true and Leigh is to die Krysis has one chance to save her and be with her forever.
Loved this :)
Lckygrl,
DeleteYeah, it was relief for Krisis to find him reasonably okay. I think it's hard for parents to let go sometimes, J.D. is having hard time accepting that Mickey is all grown up now.
Krisis has to choose wisely or it could cost him.
Thanks for reading and for commenting. And sorry about you dinner.
Poor J.D., he and my mom need to hang out. I agree with Krisis, he should save changing her for a worst case scenario.
ReplyDeleteLOL. hook me up with your mom's simself.
DeleteOkay, on a serious note, he is having a tough time letting go, I hope you're not giving your mom a tough time, like Mickey's doing with J.D.
Definitely, turning her now should only be done when things get absolutely critical.
Thanks for reading Pixxie la la!
The cat pounce picture is the best!
ReplyDeleteWe see a little more into the closed mind of J.D. He always struck me as the trunk of the tree holding up his family and friends as though they are the limbs. He is a great character :)
I thoroughly enjoyed the update. (more more more) And the picture where J.D. pushes at Krisis is awesome. All of the pictures are really nice. :)
(Krisis' new hairstyle is growing on me, he looks great ^_^)
Fae,
Delete*blushes* TY. DH agrees with you there, he likes that pic best.
I think he always was as you described him, strong for everyone, but he def feels as deeply as the others and Mickey growing up like that tugged at the strings of his heart a little more than anyone would have guessed.
It's great to know after 155 chapters you still enjoy the story; that means a lot to me, so thank you. I'm really trying to post as quickly as I can because I have to get Krisis running concurrently with another writer's story, so updates will be frequent.
Thanks for the compliment on the shots.
I'm glad his new hair is growing on you, he's changing, he's going on tour soon, the new look was needed I guess. It's growing on DD too.
Thanks for reading and for your feedback. I appreciate the time you still have for Krisis.
I still feel bad for JD. I get his point as a father about Cam. He has been around but he hasn't seen how he is with Mickey. Krimsyn really should have told him. I know a lot was going on, but when things started to settle, they should have talked. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he and Krisis talked and the truth behind his feeling came out. And how as a friend even though JD is hurting he could sober up enough to hear Krisis' problems as well and give advice. :)
Krisis still avoiding changing Leigh even though he knows he has to. What if something happens to her and he's not there to save her. It would be too late to change her and bring her back. If she is the love of his life, wouldn't he want forever with her? Has he thought of how she feels to know that she is aging and will die while he and the kids will remain the same? I hope he will make a decision before is possibly forced on him.
Great as always Val! :)
Jaz,
DeleteI know, right? He's totallly in a bad place right now. He knows Cam inside out, and it's natural for him to worry for Mickey. But I like what you said, he hasn't seen how different Cam is with Mickey. You're also right abt Krimsyn, this one is really mostlyvon her. On the other hand I can understand why she didn't, she and Mickey were just getting their trust back, and Mickey told her about her feelings for Cam in confidence. She didn't want to betray Mickey's trust.
Yes, Krisis helped him soet through his feelings, their talk was needed. I think both men are good for each other.
Right now Krisis is very much open to turning Leigh, but only when things get absolutely critical. He has one chance at it, so he's holding out, waiting on Ariel's predictions. It's riskt, messy and not guaranteed, especially since anything can happen at any time and when he's not around to save her, but its a chance ge has to take. If he turns her now and Ariel's predictions come true he can't turn her again or bring her back.
Thank you for reading and for your feedback.
I loved that chapter... It was so sweet, and moving, and touching. I love their friendship you know? I always love it when two male guys can just be deep with each other, and speak to each other like this because they're just... Close. I love those two....
ReplyDeleteNow that I really see more of what J.D's feeling I feel a lot less annoyed with him. I want to hug him and sqeeze him and tell him that it's not all over, whereas before I wanted to tell him to try harder. Ah J.D. It's really rather heartbreaking to see him like this! :') But its so sweet that he's such a wonderful dad. I love him!
That bit at the start with the cat was so adorable! I was sqeeing all over the place, it was so bloody cute. Ach, I never took krisis for a cat guy! ^_^ Once again he's just gone up YET ANOTHER LEVEL in the awesomeness ranks. It takes a manly man to hug a cat methinks.. I loved that picture with the cat pouncing on him! :D
I think the pictures you took in this chapter were all SO amazing! Loved them all, they were fantastic. Especially that last one with Krisis and the snow, it was so... Atmospheric. Gorgeous stuff this is. His hair is SO growing on me, I love it! :X and I loved his eyes this chapter, they really... Shone.
Beautiful writing, beautiful bromance, beautiful pictures, this chapter had it going on! ;)
Eni,
DeleteI get you about J.D. and Krisis, they have a solid friendship since they've seen the other at their absolute worst. They can always count on each if something goes wrong.
Lol, you wanted to be hard on J.D. You are so mean! I'm glad this chapter explained his thought and showed his feelings. He's having a hard time letting go of his only child. And I love him too. He loves his family more than anything.
Lol @ "it takes a manly man to hug a cat methinks". That just made my evening. Krisis is full of surprises, he loves cats and gets along well with Rags, the kiddies' puppy. As for the awesomeness ranks, it's good to know he still has it. The pic of the cat pouncing on him seems to be a fav for most, I'm glad you loved it.
TY for the compliment on the shots. I love his hair, when I saw it I thought of him. And his eyes, I love it when they glow like that.
Thanks so much for reading and for your feedback.
Oh dear lord if that comment didn't post im going to have a freaking hernia. Please tell me it posted? :'(
ReplyDeleteLol, it posted Eni, no reason to have a hernia.
DeleteWhat a great talk between two great man. haha
ReplyDeleteI am with Dj, prevention is better then the cure. Its time he turned her!
Really how else can she keep up with her powerful kids. :) Krisis is such a hot piece of pixels :P
Dutchy,
DeleteThe talk between two great man went better thank Krisis had feared. You mean J.D? Yes, yes, I'm with him also, but Krisis also made a valid point, he only has one shot at this, before it was about turning her to spend eternal life with her, now its more critical, it's his only chance to save Leigh if it gets to that.
Lol @ the comment abt Krisis.
Thanks for reading.
Sorry I mean JD. haha
DeleteIs there a new reply system that you can now reply under every name?
LOL. I figured that's who you meant. And yeah, there's a new relply system. Now if only blogger could make it so we can just reply to comments within the dashboard, that would be super cool IMO!
DeleteI think im lost here?? What is happening to leigh? Why would it be the last snow?
ReplyDeleteVery nice chapter, krysis has really wisened up ha ha ! I hope Cam does not hurt his baby girl
GirlyGirl,
ReplyDeleteIf Ariel's predictions (opening chapter of Season 5) come true, it might be Leigh's last snow. Thanks. He sure has. Oh, Cam will have an angry dad to answer to if he does hurt his baby.
Very intriguing chapter, that was quite the conversation Krisis & J.D. had! I hope it gives Krises some food-for-thought, prevention IS better than any cure. ;) Excellent chapter Valpre, looking forward to the next.
ReplyDeleteQuan-Kun,
DeleteIt's great to hear from you! For sure, I agree, quite the conversation indeed between Krisis and J.D.
It def will give Krisis a lot to think about. TY for reading and for your feedback.
So that's what was really wrong. He thought Mickey didn't need him anymore. I'm glad that Krisis helped him see things differently!
ReplyDeleteKrisis is just so crazy about Leigh. Thinking of their shaky beginning, it is just so nice to see! I loved the way he moved away from the ledge because he knew that no one else would love Leigh the way that he does! I wonder how she will feel if he doesn't want to turn her now!
Was JD telling him to kill someone to prevent Leigh's death? If so, I hope that it doesn't backfire on Krisis!
Such a good update, Val!
Nedra,
DeleteYeah, that's what was bothering him, he saw Mickey growing up as a loss, and he totally missed what he still had to look forward to.
For sure, Krisis is crazy about Leigh, and I know what you mean about their rocky start, for a sec there I was scared they wouldn't end up together, but they triumphed over and over, it will all be such a shame if Ariel's predictions come through after all they've been through.
Yes, J.D. was telling him just that. Chances of it backfiring are 100% and that's why Krisis found their conversation disturbing.
Thank you. And thanks so much for reading and for all your feedback.
So sorry it took so long for me to get all caught up, but I've loved every minute of it. I'm glad that Krisis was able to be there for J.D. and just let him vent without trying to defend his (and everyone's) decision to not tell him about Mickey and Cam.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too sure I'm liking the foreshadowing going on with Leigh and Ariel's predictions, it breaks my heart that it might come true. But I suppose fate cares little of the emotions, and what must be will be :)
Dem,
DeleteYay, I'm so glad you're caught up, but really there was no rush, with everything you're going through in RL I understand.
Yes, Krisis knew they were wrong and there was really no justifying it, the best thing he could do for J.D. was to allow him to vent and be there for him.
I like what you said about what must be will be. It's certainly true for Leigh and Krisis.
Thanks for reading, Sunny.
GASP! Aahhhh well I hope J.D feels better now. That was actually a kind of bittersweet chapter. Sweet yet sour. Lol I really hope the two of them feel better now though.
ReplyDeleteEeeh standing on the edge of the building O_O Scared the crap out of me, i'm like "Dont fall dont fall dont fall" The the thoughts of Krisis being dead :O :'( Made me sad Lol
I loved that pics when the cat was attacking him LOL soo funny ahaha. Also the one where they're talking at the table, LOL His face lolololol
Is Krisis now thinking of turning Leigh? :O I hope so! I want her to be turned but...Almost don't Lol not sure why though. But I realllllly don't want her to die! The why he was thinking about how much he loves her and stuff I was like aawww <3 so sweet!
Great chapter! :O:D<3 Can't wait to see what happens next!!!!
(Now on to the Forsaken!)
Rose,
Delete*hugs*
Yes, talking to Krisis certainly happened, J.D. does feel better.
LOL.I think it scared the crap out of him too, that's why he quickly moved away from the ledge.
Everyone seems to love the cat pic. And I love his expression when he's talking to J.D., his son makes the exact same faces. I love them both to bits.
Yes, he is seriously thinking about it, but he doesn't want to do it now before Ariel's predictions come true, he's saving turning her for the worst case scenario. I know what you mean about being two minded, about turning Leigh. I want her to stay human, but Krisis in the game wants to turn her so badly, he's wanted to turn her since they met and that was 2010 already. Poor guy. LMAO. Krisis does love Leigh, she's his weakness and everybody knows it. He shouldn't wear his heart on the sleeve like that.
Thanks for reading.
Krisis had a lot of interesting expressions to display in this chapter heh. Also though I think for JD that his girl is growing now and no matter what she will make her own decisions. Perhaps Cam has changed and matured though, I mean he better have or else he's going to be in some trouble with JD.
ReplyDeleteOh yea, I loved that you mentioned the turning. I know it was bought up previously a while ago and was wondering if it would come back up.
