144. Rock On, Baby Mama!

Warning: lots of pink and blue ahead, tears and smiles, rainbows and sunshine. And oh, a few surprises!

Bridgeport, present day...

Krisis was dressed and ready to leave for Krimsyn and J.D’s dinner party. He went to their bedroom to check on Leigh, only to find her slumped on the bed, crying her eyes out.

“Leigh, what’s wrong?” He sank on the bed beside her.

“I don’t want to go!” He could barely make out what she was saying; her voice was muffled by the pillows.

“Come here, tell me why.” Krisis held her closely, running a gentle hand in her tangled hair.

“Look at me, I look like a whale. I don’t fit in the dress. I can’t even paint my toe nails,” Leigh broke down again.

“You look beautiful, and you don’t have to wear the dress if you don’t want to,” Krisis told her, but Leigh was having none of it.

“Okay then, we’ll stay home,” Krisis suggested. Leigh shook her head as she sat up and he was thoroughly confused now.

“Look,” he sat in the arm chair in front of her. “Do you want to go? We won’t go if you don’t want to. We can order pizza and watch a movie?”

‘No, let’s go. Krimsyn will be mad at us if we don’t go. But I don’t want to wear the dress. And I want to paint my toenails, but I can’t reach my feet anymore,” she sniffled.

Without saying a thing, Krisis went to the closet and looked through her outfits.

“What about this one?” He asked as he held up a black silk dress.

Leigh shook her head. It was too formal and she didn’t think it would sit well on her round stomach.

For fifteen minutes Krisis took out one outfit after the other and each time Leigh’s sniffling grew louder and louder. None of the outfits strewn on the bed and floor fit her anymore. Eventually they settled on a pair of black leggings, which miraculously still fit her, and a white beach kaftan. 

“You look gorgeous,” he kissed her gently to show his approval before helped her back on the bed.

When he placed her feet on his lap, Leigh protested, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“I got this. I know how to apply nail polish,” Krisis assured her.

“Past girlfriends?” Her voice had a tinge of jealousy.

“No. Krimsyn. She used to make me play dress up with her all the time when we were growing up,” Krisis murmured, smiling at the memory.

Leigh grew silent as she watched him apply the nail polish carefully on her toes, she was impressed with his skills, in fact she praised him for ‘making her feet look pretty again’.

With the mini pedicure done, Krisis helped Leigh put on her shoes and he carried her to the car.

“I can walk you know,” Leigh protested weakly. She was secretly enjoying the attention though.

“I know you can. But I don’t want you to smear the nail polish. I worked hard on that you know,” he joked as he fastened her seat belt…

Frost/Summers lake house...

“Surprise!” echoed throughout the room when Krisis and Leigh walked in.

Leigh burst into tears. She wasn’t expecting this.

She’d thought Krimsyn and J.D’s sudden “dinner party” was weird. But now she understood and she was touched.

Her family and friends had organized a 'Rockstar' theme baby shower for her and Krisis.

Leigh looked around the living room, amazed and blown away by the decorations; silver and gold stars hung from the ceilings and walls, beaded curtains hung in doorways, and as Krimsyn explained, it wouldn’t be a rockstar party without the strobe lights, fog machine and the black lights.

“This is amazing. Thank you.” Leigh brushed away her tears as she hugged Krimsyn and Eloise.

“You are amazing. And those little rockstars will be amazing too,” Krimsyn smiled, and knelt down to listen to her tummy.

Her eyes widened when she felt the babies’ kicks.

“Whoa! I think they’re playing drums in there.” Her squeals led their guests to clamor around Leigh.

For a good fifteen minutes she was put on display. Everyone wanted to feel her tummy and listen to the babies and pass their congratulations once again.

Krisis stuck very close to her the whole time, never leaving her side. He was a little aggressive with the male guests (especially Jesse) when they tried to get close to Leigh’s tummy.

“Make your own,” he told them over and over.

Leigh and Jesse drifted to the tiny kitchen and talked for a bit.

“Why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would have dressed up, you know!” She punched his arm playfully.

“Ouch,” Jesse pouted, pretending to be hurt.

“Eloise called and I just couldn’t say no,” he added as he ruffled her hair affectionately. Each had missed the other very much.

Leigh learned there was more to his sudden reappearance than Eloise’s phone call.  His grandmother had passed on two months earlier and she’d left him a tidy sum and the house in Barnacle Bay, but he was thinking of relocating to Bridgeport. And since things had gone pear shaped between him and Shaun, the last place he wanted to be was Champs Les Sims. He wanted a fresh start and Eloise’ wedding in a few weeks was the distraction he needed.

"You seem happy,” Jesse smiled wistfully, thinking about their time together in Barnacle and how close they were to a happily ever after.  

 “Yeah, I am. I love him, Jesse. He makes me so incredibly happy. And he painted my toe nails!” Leigh told him and they both burst into peals of laughter at the last bit. Krisis giving Leigh a pedicure seemed so random; it wasn’t Rockstar-like as Jesse pointed out.

“Good. I am glad that hothead of yours is making you happy,” he told her. There was still so much he wanted to say to her, so much he wanted to get off his chest, but seeing her so happy and big with Krisis’ babies, he knew that ship had long sailed…

Later, Eloise divided the crowd into male and female groups, and the next hour or so was spent playing trivia games.

Baby Outburst and Baby Jeopardy were favorites, and in both games, the women came out victorious, after all they had Tanya Rock on their side. The former rocker had raised six kids, she knew everything there was to know about babies!

Dinner was casual and relaxed and everyone seemed to like the autumn salad for starters and Spaghetti Bolognaise for the main meal.

While everyone enjoyed cheesecake for dessert, J.D. and Krimsyn sneaked off to enjoy each other, their absence didn’t escape everyone’s notice.

“At the rate you’re going, we’ll be throwing you one of these soon,” Krisis joked when his sister and her fiancé finally resurfaced. Krimsyn blushed and ignored his comment, while J.D. kept right on grinning like a Cheshire cat.

In their small piece of heaven, oblivious to the raucous in the room, Lily and Blake were happy to test out some of the triplets' toys; they wanted to make sure all the goodies worked okay and had no defects.

Michaela finally found the moment she’d been waiting for when she saw Cameron leave his place at the table and head off to the bathroom.

She followed him and locked the door behind her.

“What are you doing here?” He asked, shocked and amused to see her.

“I think you know,” she smiled, slowly making her way to him. “You owe me a kiss!”

“We’ve talked about this Mickey. Just a little more time,” he reminded her gently as he pulled her in his arms. He kissed the top of her head, holding her tightly to him. Her hair smelled like strawberries and sunshine. At that moment, standing in the middle of her bathroom, he realized it was his favorite smell in the world, and he wanted to wake up to it every morning.

“I’m tired of waiting,” Michaela replied, clinging to him. She wished they could stay this way forever, she didn’t want to let him go, just like she didn’t want to go back out there and pretend she and Cameron were just friends. She wanted the whole world to know they were in love and they wanted to be together.

“They will. Soon,” Cameron answered her thoughts. He gently pushed her away and opened the door, ushering out of the room.

In the living room, Leigh had just opened her last gift when her water broke.

“I think the babies are on the way,” she announced calmly.

“Woohoo! Yeah baby, that’s what I’m talking about!” Eloise couldn’t help but cheer.  It was about time...
