118. Reflections

Warning: language

Bridgeport, present day...
Krisis had a quick shower and a change of clothing before he went downstairs to his home studio to work on new material for the band.

He gave up though after an hour or so. He had a lot on his mind and the longer he stared at the instruments and the music sheets that once gave him joy, the quicker his love for music died.

“Shit!” He pushed the music sheets away from him with an angry grunt, sending the papers flying in the air. He watched them float above his head for a nanosecond before they fell back on the table with a silent flutter, reminding him of his own life.

At that moment he felt like he was hanging by the thread, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
He wasn’t stupid; he’d quickly added up a lot of things, like the Council’s judgment. He’d suspected someone had pulled strings and made sure he got away with killing Vladimir. He knew now who the puppeteer was. He was right from the start. He’d suspected it was Thornton, but he’d never imagined it was because they were related…

He had so many questions and no answers; the ones that nagged him the most were about his career.

How much of their success was due to their talent, and how much was Thornton’s doing? Did they sell records because they were good, or did Thornton have something to do with that too?  How far and wide did the man’s hand reach? What other small acts of kindness had he done for them in the past without their knowledge?
Krisis stared up at the ceiling and blew out a frustrated sigh.

At 216 years he’d never thought he’d go through an identity crisis. But lately, since his fight with Thornton, he’d started questioning everything. His whole life had been based on one truth, and finding out Thornton was his father had turned his world upside down...

Knowing he was a child of rape had always filled him with a shame and self loathing he could never explain to anyone. But, he’d learned to accept it and deal with it because he’d convinced himself his rapist father was long dead and he’d never have to confront him for his actions. Now it turned out the man was alive and well, didn’t even look like a rapist and may not even be one. But just because he wore nice suits and combed his hair didn’t mean that he wasn’t a rapist.
Margaret wouldn’t lie about that, about being raped. Or would she? And what did it say about him, having a rapist father, was he like Thornton in some ways?

Would his own son take after his grandfather, would he have some rapist gene; be predisposed to being a rapist and a killer since it seemingly ran in the family?

What kind of father would he be to his own kids when he had no frigging clue who he was anymore?

These were questions he would never ask out loud, especially to Leigh. They kept him awake at night and consumed his waking moments too.

“Fuck!” He kicked his drum set on his way out; he needed to get out of the house.
He was almost at the cliff when he changed his mind.
In the past he’d always gone up there to think and get close to Laura, but lately he felt guilty just thinking about her. He was with Leigh now, and Laura was in the past. He had to find another place to think, one that didn’t remind of him Laura.
He got on his motorcycle, and headed towards the city center. He was looking for trouble, anything really, just to get the edge off.
He found it in the form of Cameron at Waylon’s haunt, doing what he did best, feeling up one of his groupies in their usual corner booth.
Cameron’s beer and the girl’s colorful drink, some fruity cocktail, remained untouched on the table, along with the french-fries and hot wings.
The groupie was exactly Cameron’s type. Super tight leather hot pants and bleached hair, a barbwire tattoo slashed across her midriff.

The bangles on her left wrist jangled every time she caressed Cameron’s hand, egging him on, pleading for his touch and a whole lot more.
From her loud, impassioned whimpers, Krisis gathered his band mate was doing something right, touching her in all the right places. She was practically begging Cameron to fuck her right there on the booth in a room full of people.
Before Cameron could fulfill her fantasies, Krisis made his presence known. “Fix your clothes and leave,” he told the groupie, his lip curled distastefully.
Without saying a word, she jumped from Cameron’s lap, fixed her top and walked away with as much dignity as she could muster.
Krisis caught a whiff of her perfume as she brushed past him; it was flowery, sweet, and cheap too, like her.
He snorted, wondering what it was with Cameron and skanks.
“What’s up?” Cameron asked casually as soon as they were alone.

“Lay off my niece.” Krisis dropped on the table and gave him a small smile, but his eyes remained frosty, letting the other man know, in no uncertain terms, he meant business. “She’s not legal and even if she was, I’ll kill you first and J.D. will finish you off!”
He saw the shocked, almost confused look in Cameron’s eyes, but he wasn’t swayed by it.

Cameron was a sly one, been around forever, and in the very long time he’d known him, he’d seen him toy with women and discard them as soon as he got bored or the next flavor of  the month rolled around. He wasn’t going to let him do the same to his niece.
Krisis got up from the booth, and stared at his friend, rubbing his chin contemplatively, as if trying to decide how to say the rest of his piece.

“I see the way she looks at you and the way you smile at her. She has a mad crush on you and you’re not doing anything to discourage it. Kill it now before it gets too far!” He told him just before he walked away, leaving his band mate with a lot to think about.
Long after Krisis was gone, Cameron was still at Waylon’s Haunt, drinking himself senseless.

There’s no truth in Krisis’ words. Not on my part at least. That’s what he kept telling himself.

Sure, lately they’d grown close.  He’d helped her through her breakup from that goofball, Leo, by being the friend she’d needed when her own parents were too caught up with finding Blake to notice she was hurting.
There were never any weird moments between them, he’d never wanted to cross a line with her, and so Krisis being all protective was a bit worrying.
He ordered the bartender to keep his drinks coming, and tried his damnedest to dismiss their talk. But Krisis’ accusations lingered, and they couldn’t be erased with a few drinks. They stuck with him, made him question his whole friendship with Michaela.
Had the other man seen something he hadn’t? Something he’d been too blind to see perhaps or too stubborn to acknowledge? Did he unknowingly lead her on, make her think there was more to their friendship? Was there more to their friendship? Did he want more?

His answer to all his questions was no. Except the last one. He couldn’t answer that one, didn’t even know how or why it had crossed his mind.

He needed to see her, talk to her, and set the record straight. Kill whatever crush she had on him. Yes, soon, they’d have to sit down and get everything out in the open.
“Closing time,” the bartender announced.

It was 4am already. Time definitely flies when you’re drunk and panicky.
He made his way outside, grateful to see the limo still there, along with the band’s security detail.
“To the penthouse?” George, the band’s driver, asked when Cameron slid inside.
Cameron faltered. In a few hours he had band practice, and it made sense to just head over to Krimsyn and J.D.’s place. But he was still rattled over his run in with Krisis.
“No, take me home.” He quickly decided against the penthouse. He’d deal with the band later; right then he needed sleep, and maybe when he woke up his head would be a little clearer and he could decide how to approach Michaela.

“Are you okay?” George asked, his eyebrows fused in a concerned frown.
“Yeah, I’m good!” Cameron replied and shut the glass panel between them. He wasn’t in the mood for conversation, didn’t need or want a Dear Abby.

  1. I can understand how krysis is feeling, it must be hard. However maybe it wasn't rape, I don't know ? :) Great chapter as always luvd it:) xxx

  2. Krisis is really going through it and will continue to go through it until he does something about it. There is a time to tough and stubborn and a time to bite down and do what needs to be done! He needs to talk to Thorton! And fast! He has an attitude that is shutting Leigh off from everything and causing him to lose his mind.

Cam. I don't know how I feel about what he said to him. I guess a warning is ok but there is no proof other than the smiles and stares. They were all consumed with Blake to notice she was going through something so it's wrong for him to have built a bond with her?

  3. Ha! Cameron, you slick devil! Could Michaela be the one who can make him leave the groupies behind? Krisis gave him a lot to think about!

It was good to hear exactly what was troubing Krisis - it really helped get to the core of his worries and see how valid they are. (when he doesn't have the facts)

Soon his babies will be here, and he won't have Leigh's health as an excuse to keep this from her. (although by then she'll likely be too tired to care! Lol!)

Loved the depth on this one!

  4. What did Krisis do? Now he has Cameron all thinkin' if he really likes Michaela or not. Whats Krisis gonna do if he really does want to be with her? Can't wait to find out what happens next. Also when is Leigh gonna have her babies?

  5. Poor Krisis! He is so confused about his life. He's not even sure about his talent anymore. He needs to swallow his pride and question Thornton.

I think that his decision to quit going to a place that makes him think of Laura was the right one. He does need to keep her in the past in order to move forward with Leigh.

I don't think that Cameron would intentionally hurt Michaela, but if she has a crush on him, trying to end her crush, will hurt her.

    Great Update!

  6. Ooooh noooo. When will Krisis confront Thorny about this, and learn the whole story and stop being so torn up?! I really don't like his train of thought, it's illogical and it's going to make him do something stupid.

He should at LEAST try and talk it over with Leigh! It's so mean of him to push her away like this, even if he doesn't know it.

AND OMG I'D TOTALLY FORGOTTEN THAT CAMERON WAS IN THE BAND!!!!!!!! Woooah. That was suspiciously unexpected. Im not sure how to feel about it. On one side, Im so totally liking them together and thinking that they shall have gorgeous babies. ON the other hand, Krisis made a lot of valido points, in his head.

Im really kind of hoping for a wedding though. The nearly wedding with Leigh and that guy whose name I've already forgotten (:/ >_>) was really good! And also, am I the only one that see's Blake and Lily together?? Is that just a me thing?

I loved it, though there's nothing new there of course!

And also, uhm, the bloss legacy is over. I explained more on the forum page. :'(

  7. Beth,
I'm glad you get what he's going through. It sure if hard for him, and it wasn't rape, but he doesn't know that. Whe Margaret found out Krisis' dad was a Vampire she didn't want to have anything to do with him, and a few weeks later she found out she was pregnant, but she couldn't tell her parents she'd made babies with a Vampire, so she lied to her folks and told them she was raped by a man carrying the Vampire gene. This happened some 216 years ago, back then abortion was taboo and she couldn't get rid of her unborn kids. But she hated them, they reminded her of everything she wanted to forget. This was explained in the "Years" prompt in Season 2.

    And thank you for reading!

  8. Qui,

You are absolutely right. He won't let it go till he talks about it, preferably with Krimsyn and Thornton first before he goes to Leigh. The questions he has about his own kids won't sound reasonable or good from Leigh's POV.

Krisis has known Cam for a very long time to know what he is and what he's about. The smiles and stares are not proof, but they are enough to cause him to issue his warning.

It's def not wrong for Cam to have formed a close bond with her, but if that bond grows into something bigger and more, then it's going to be a problem.

We'll see in the next chapter if Krisis was wrong about his suspicions.

    Thanks for reading!

  9. Jill,

I couldn't have it put it better, he is a slick one. And that's an interesting question! She's still so young, with her very long life ahead of her, and he's lived, with a lot of groupies under his belt. Maybe it's just friendship between them, or maybe it's more. Season 4 will answer that :)

Thank you, I'm relieved it made sense from his POV, but you are right, once he knows the facts it won't be so solid anymore. Krisis is purely going with what his grandparents told him, and for him that's the only truth that matters. He really has no interest in hearing Thornton's side, the way he feels, the man is guilty, if not for rape, then for child neglect and abandonment, so showing up in their lives after 216 and drop hints about getting to know his grand kids, is enough to make Krisis hate Thornton anew.

Definitely. I've figured out where to slot the babies arrival :) But things come to a head long before their kids' arrival.

I'm glad you found it deep. Thank you!

  10. Anna,

He may have done a lot more damage than he realizes. True, he's watered seeds in Cameron's head which may have taken years to grow. Cameron won't just have Krisis to deal with if and when he does start something with Mickey. Leigh's going to have the babies towards the end of Season 4.

    Thanks for reading!

  11. 11daisies,

Confused sums it up perfectly. He def is! Exactly, his letting his self doubts get to him, and possibly destroy the one pure thing he has in his life right now.

And he has kept Laura in the past, but from time to time, like the cliff, he sees reminders of her. But yes, leaving the cliff when he did was good, and it's a sign that he wants to leave Laura in the past.

The issue with Cam and Michaela is much more sensitive than Krisis' anticipated, if Cam does end her "crush" he risks destroying their friendship, and right now, going through her breakup from Leo, his friendship is important to her.

    Thank you!

  12. Eni,

Firstly I'm so sorry about your game and the story. I loved your legacy to bits and all I can do right now is give you lots of *virtual hugs*. You are a phenomenal writer and consider me sold on the next story you write.

    About Krisis,
Krisis isn't big on words, but he loves using his fists, so the next time he runs into Thorny, he may not be in a talking mood. But he does need to confront him about it.

It's hurtful what he's doing to Leigh, but the last thing he wants is to be cruel to her, and it's not his intentions.

    LOL@ "suspiciously unexpected"

The idea of Cam and Michaela sounds exciting, but if and when they do go there, it won't be easy, especially when Krisis is already in opposition.

The weddings are coming up, just taking a wee time to get there. But they are coming. So are the babies too!

  13. Wow!

    1. Krisis seems to be hanging by a thread

    2. Wow, Cam hadn't done anything. Strange for Cam! Is he feeling OK?

    3. Sorry, I've been a stranger lately, with Docs appointments and family issues, I've not had time. Sorry.

    4. Krisis should really discuss his problems with Leigh, he end up losing her if shutting her out continues.

    Sorry again, great chapter

  14. Leah,

    1. He is

    2. Lol. Yes he was feeling ok before his talk with Krisis

    3. I understand, RL comes first!

    4. He will lose her

    No problem and thank you!

  15. Why do I get the feeling that season 4 is going to be very interesting between Michaela and Cam. I can't wait to see how you will develop that storyline! I feel sorry for Krisis I hope he will soon find out that he is who he always been and that they all love him for it!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Karin,

Lol, Season 4 is long, so I'm hoping it will be interesting and keep everyone entertained. I'd like that for Krisis too. If only he wasn't too proud and too stubborn to let everyone in
    Thanks for reading!

  17. Krysis seems really ready for a fight Cam better watch his step

  18. Lckygrl, you're right, Krisis is itching for a fight!

    Thanks for reading!

  19. I really enjoy reading this story. Thank you for writing and sharing it... If #4 up there actually happens, I don't think he will be looking for a fight, he will rampage. Krisis blindsided poor Cameron. I like the way the interaction played out. And I like that Krisis noticed Cameron's bewildered moment. If anything comes to pass, maybe he will remember that instant.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Zhippidy,

I'm glad you're enjoying the story and, I should be the one thanking you, for all your feedback and support.

Cameron had better be prepared for what's to come, if and when he does pursue whatever it is Krisis thinks he saw with Mickey.

Krisis was looking for a fight, but Cameron wouldn't give him one. You're probably right, he might remember Cam's confusion, but when something does happen, Krisis won't care much about it.

  21. Loved the chapter! Great! When i saw/read the part about the cliff i was like "O_O =O" Haha really! I loved the band site. And the house pics! Its almost like you got a little legacy starting here! HA! =P hehe

(Ps. I made a blog *Points to name* if you want to see some stuff from outside of the magazine)

  22. Rose, glad you enjoyed the chapter. Lol, a legacy? No way! I'd fail miserably at that. Cool, hook me up with the link to your site then :-)

  24. Rose,

I checked your site. It's very gorgeous.

They can't really squeeze into Krisis' 2 bedroom home, so moving into a bigger house is a necessity and it's the next logical step for a couple expecting triplets.

  25. If I was Krisis I would be asking the same questions, if Thornton had the power to make sure that Krisis got away with murder, surely it could be possible for him to help the band sell records –though I don’t think that is the case, I would be wondering the same things!

Poor Krisis, so many thoughts and emotions running through his mind, and it pains me to see him keep that all bottled up. I wish that he would just open up to her –if even just a little. Time is wearing thin to use Leigh’s health as a reason not to talk to her. That boy seriously needs to chew his pride and swallow it down…either open up to Leigh…or find out the truth –or as much of it as he can from Thornton! I really hope that he can come to terms with everything before it is too much to hold in and he explodes…that could make for a mess that I don’t think anyone could clean up!

I think Krisis might have made a big boo-boo telling Cam to lay off his niece.

    Excellent chapter as always!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jenn,

I'm glad you get where Krisis is coming from, I would question a lot of things too, if my father had that kind of power. Thornton is the only one who can clear up everything that's eating Krisis.

It's more of a question of trying to make sense of his feelings and thoughts before he goes to Leigh, than pride really. But you're right, in just a few weeks he'll have no excuse for keeping her in the dark.

LOL @ big boo-boo. Again, you're possibly right about that.

    Thank you!

  27. Krysis seems a bit confused and paranoid right now. I'm guessing this is not a good thing for those close to him and not just Leigh. I'm sure Michaela won't like like Krysis intruding on her relationships.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Aeon,

Confused yes, reflective yes, but paranoid, no. You're guessing correctly, it's not a good thing as we've seen with the way he confronted Cameron.
Michaela will def not like that if and when she finds out.

    Thanks for reading!

  29. Aw! I feel bad for Michaela that she was heart broken and no one noticed because of Blake being kidnapped. Sometimes things fall through the cracks. Hopefully she knows everyone still loves her, that it was just an emergency.
I like Cameron's reaction to Krisis's threat. Ha! He seemed so dumbfounded that she had a crush on him. Sometimes men can be clueless.
It's interesting that he couldn't answer the question about if he wanted more than just a friendship.

It's been interesting getting to know more about some of these characters. I look forward to see more about Cameron and Michaela ;)
