Barnacle Bay, present day...

For a blissful five minutes, they lay in each other’s arms, Krisis’ grip tightening around her small frame.

“I know why you left Leigh. It was Jacqueline. She compelled you, and made you believe I didn’t love you. I never thought she would stoop so low, and for weeks I looked for you. I would have tried to find you sooner, but Lily’s been sick, the band’s been recording. Everything just seemed to spiral out of control after you left…”

She placed a silencing hand on his lips.

“I’m sorry I left. I should have known it was her. I should have known you loved me. And a part of me knew, but that voice was always there, at the back of my mind, reminding me I could never come home,” she laughed, convinced she wasn’t making sense, convinced he thought she was crazy.

“I don’t think you’re crazy,” he assured her. He’d read her thoughts the moment he felt her withdraw from him.

“Thank you,” she smiled, grateful she wasn’t losing her mind, and he believed her. There were moments she’d questioned her sanity, convinced she was losing her mind.

They settled into contented silence, before Krisis moved over her again. This time their lovemaking was much gentler, and more leisurely. The moment they both reached their climax, Leigh could swear they’d created a life. She cried, brushing away her tears, thinking how messed up she was…

“It’s not messed up. I felt it too,” Krisis kissed her forehead, before taking her lips again.

And then reality knocked on the door.

“Leigh, it’s almost time,” Janice knocked once before trying the door. Leigh could hear her panicked cries on the other end when she tried to push it and found it locked.

“Leigh, are you in there?” She asked again.

“Yeah. Just a minute.” Leigh yelled as loudly as she could, all the while scrambling for the dress on the floor. She blushed when she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. She looked thoroughly ravished.

“Okay, hurry up. I’ll be downstairs.” Janice yelled back, and slowly backed away from the door.

“You’re not going through with the wedding. I won’t let you. I know why you’re doing it Leigh, and it’s not right,” Krisis announced.

He stretched languidly on the bed, feeling pleased with himself. He never understood the shit about the “cat that got the cream” until that moment, when he was staring at her intently, enjoying seeing the results of their mating. Her eyes were still bright with desire, and her skin had an afterglow that couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than what it was.

She stopped and glared at him through the mirror.

“You promised not to read my thoughts. It’s not fair. I don’t need you in my head all the time Krisis,” she snapped, and fixed her dress, before running an angry hand through her hair. She applied a touch of mascara, and put on some lipstick.

“What? So what we just did doesn’t mean anything? What is wrong with you?” He growled as he leapt from the bed and joined her in front of the mirror. His sudden nearness was torture since he was still naked and she was far from satiated.

She should have known making love with him would complicate things. He thought that she could just up and leave because he’d swept her off her feet again. She wished it was that simple, but she’d given Jesse her word. She couldn’t back out now. Not when his family was out there. Not when Ruth was expecting her dying wish to be fulfilled.

“Since you read my thoughts, then you know why I’m doing this. Jesse needs my help. Six weeks at most,” she tried to explain but he brushed her off.

“So I’m supposed to let you be another man’s wife for six weeks? You’re out of your mind. Pack your bags, we’re going home!” He retorted, throwing on his clothes. There was a hardness in his eyes suddenly, his jaw clenched tightly.

“Please, it doesn’t mean anything. I’m just helping out a friend,” Leigh tried again, but he would have none of it.

“The only ring on that finger will be mine. I’ll be in the car. I don’t play games Leigh. I’m too old for that shit. So go out there, tell Jesse it’s not happening, and if he needs financial help he should call me. But you’re not marrying him. It’s non-negotiable!” With that he left the room, leaving her speechless.

Note: There was supposed to be a fifth part to this update, but I figured I'll wait before I break a few hearts, you know, let everyone enjoy the reunion. LOL!
