Preset Day...
People always say there's a lesson in every experience. In the days following her father’s funeral Eloise found herself wondering exactly what it was that she was supposed to learn from her loss.
She was so angry with everyone, and everything.
She was angry with her father for leaving her so suddenly when he promised he wouldn’t. Angry with God for taking him away from her at a time when she needed him the most.
Angry with the paramedics for not arriving at the scene on time.
Angry at herself for not spending as much time as she should have with him when she had the chance…
She was generally pissed.
Devon wanted them to attend grief counseling; he thought a professional would help her move forward. He even went as far as booking her first appointment, but she conveniently forgot about it, and the next two.
She took to jogging instead to blow off her steam. Devon worried for her safety, he offered to come with her once, but she’d pointed out that someone had to be home with Blake. The truth was though as much as she loved Devon and Blake, sometimes, especially now when she was still reeling from her father’s death, she wanted to be alone with her thoughts, alone with her pain.
“Going jogging again?” Devon murmured one evening when she came out of the bathroom in her jogging clothes.
“Yes, I have to,” she replied as she tickled their son.
“El, you don’t have to. You can stay home with me and Blake; we can watch a movie or play some board games. I miss you,” Devon stroked her cheek. The raw emotion in his voice brought tears to her eyes. She knew it was hard on him, and she didn’t mean to push him away, but she just wanted to work through her grief and anger on her own.
“I’ll make it up to you. This weekend, I promise,” she kissed him gently on the lips.
“I’ll hold you to it,” Devon reluctantly released her from his grasp.
“I love you!” She cried over her shoulder as she dashed out of the door.
The feeling of freedom as she sprinted through the deserted roads was inexplicable. Out here she was alive. She could confront her grief and anger without someone intruding on her feelings, trying to tell her how to feel and how to act. She could scream and cry and yell without worrying about Blake and Devon, she hated for them to see her cry.
Over the past few weeks, she’d come up with a route of some sort, but today she decided to try something new. Instead of heading towards Marina field, she took a quick left and approached the bridge. The winding road grew steeper as she made her ascent.
By the time she reached the beach close to Krisis’ old house, she was out of breath. She stopped for a few minutes to stretch her legs and catch her breath before she pressed on again.
A loud growling sound behind her made her turn. Her eyes grew wide…
He looked like a dog, but he was much, much bigger than any she’d ever seen. But the idea that he could be a wolf was plain ridiculous to her. Wolves didn’t belong in urban areas. It was a rule of nature. Right?
Whatever he was though, he was beautiful.
His black coat shimmered in the moonlight, and the silver grey in his eyes reminded her of diamonds. They looked so cold, but she was drawn to them, if it wasn’t for the menacing growl and the froth dripping at the corners of his mouth she wouldn’t have thought twice about petting him.
The dog inched closer. He looked enraged with his canines barred like that. She had no freaking clue how to calm him down; she had no treat she could appease him with either.
She slowly backed away, trying her damndest not to panic; she’d read somewhere that dogs could smell fear from a mile away, or was it snakes? What did it matter now? She had to get away from him. Fast.
Once the thought crossed her mind, she couldn’t let it go. Her instincts though kicked in right about the same time he jumped for her…
Eloise was sick as a dog when she came back from her evening jog. At first she thought it was flu, or a simple cold and it would clear up soon. But, when her temperature rose dramatically overnight, Devon panicked and he rushed her to Bridgeport’s medical center the next morning.
Dr. Ross, their family doctor, was baffled. Eloise’s tests results were all clear and if it wasn’t for her sickly complexion and the symptoms of fever she would have thought nothing was wrong with her. She sent them home with bucket loads of antibiotics to treat the dog bite wound, and ordered lots of rest for Eloise.
“Maybe the dog had rabies,” Devon mused as he negotiated the car through the morning traffic.
“If it had rabies I think I’d be going crazy by now, don’t you think?” Eloise groaned in her seat. She felt like Krisis was beating his drums right inside her head, the softest noise made her want to scream; the light hurt her eyes too. Talking was just as uncomfortable. She wanted to slip under the covers and die. Maybe not die as such but just hide until whatever it was that was ailing her passed.
Devon could see she was in pain, but they had to talk about the wedding. They couldn’t keep ignoring it, it was a week away and they had to decide what to do.
“I think we should postpone. I know mom said she’s fine, but it’s too soon. I can’t face the thought of walking down aisle without dad. I’m sorry,” Eloise squeezed his shoulder.
He turned briefly from the road and smiled at her. “It’s okay, I understand, I’ll make the arrangements.”
“Thank you,” Eloise sighed, feeling weighed down by her losses. She had not only lost her father, but she had to let go of her dream too, put it on the back burner for a while at least.
“Hey, look at me; we’ll get married when the time is right. I don’t want you to worry okay?” Devon lifted her chin and tapped her nose. Eloise nodded through her tears; she wondered again how she could have possibly coped over the past two weeks without him. He was her rock.
“Will you be okay on your own? I can take a day off if you want?” Devon asked. They were outside their apartment building now.
“Stop worrying, I’ll be fine,” she assured him.
Devon didn’t look convinced, but he perked up a little when she gave him a quick kiss on the lips before she jumped out of the car…
Inside their apartment a wave of sadness washed over her when she suddenly realized that for the first time in just over two weeks she was alone, Blake was staying with Leigh and Krisis for the weekend since she didn’t want him to catch her bug.
She wasn’t hungry, but she forced herself to sit down and have something to eat, she couldn’t take her medication on an empty stomach.
She’d planned on calling Leigh, just to check on Blake, but she was feeling so weak and fatigued she passed out as soon as her head hit the pillows. And she didn’t wake up until late in the evening when she couldn’t stand the heat pumping in her veins anymore.
She tried to get up, but the room spun in dizzying circles and she collapsed back on the pillows and covered her face with one hand.
“What’s happening to me?” She growled to the empty room as she glanced at her bedside clock, she saw it was just after 6:00pm, she’d slept for eight hours straight.
She tried once again to get on her feet, this time her attempts were somewhat successful.
In the bathroom she managed to prop herself over the basin and she splashed cold water on her face, thinking it would cool her off a little. It didn’t and no matter what she tried, the burning sensation didn’t subside, she was in hell and she wanted to jump out of her skin literally and get rid of the heat.
“Fuck,” she hissed when a sharp pain shot inside her mouth. She could taste blood in her saliva as she ran her tongue tentatively over her gums, feeling, searching.
She almost died from shock when she looked in the mirror and saw fangs where her canine teeth, top and bottom, should have been.
She was still grappling with her shock when her whole body began to splinter.
“No!” She howled as she watched her once beautifully manicured finger nails turn into claws right about the same time her clothes fell in tattered pieces around her.
Her bones came undone and she swayed for a few seconds on her feet before her legs buckled and she dropped to the floor on all fours, panting and growling like a dog.
“I have to get out of here,” she tried to say, but no words came out, only a faint bark filled the empty bathroom.
It took her all of a second to process what she’d become.
And the realization was unbearable. She hurled herself at the only window in the room, wishing she could put an end to her torment.

Thank You So, So, So Very much Fae for the transformation poses. You made shooting this chapter fun and exciting. P.S. you shouldn't have told me you can create poses, now I'll be bugging you all the time.

No No No get a cure right now. Poor El shes getting married to a man she adores and a has a little one. She won't, can't cope with this.
ReplyDeleteShe may just surprise you. She has a heart of a lion! Thanks for reading!
DeleteOMG!!!! She has been turned into a werewolf!!!! Poor Eloise can't catch a break. I feel for her and she won't tell anyone I know she won't. What will happen now? She has already been pushing Devon away and now this. Will she break things off completely? I hope not, he loves her and it would break his heart. I wonder if Krisis will be able to pick up on the change in her? Can he sense those kinds of things? How will he break to the news to Leigh if he can, would he even tell her knowing everything else she's dealing with?
ReplyDeleteSorry for all the questions. I'm just in shock I guess. So much is going on and I just get all excited, but you know that by now. :)
Jaz,
DeleteYes, she's been changed. This may not necessarily be a bad thing, being turned that is. And I love all your questions, they'll all be addressed over the next few chapters.
Thanks so much for reading and your feedback, and it makes me happy to see you as excited as I am for this new storyline.
AWESOME! I'm so excited. Enter the werewolves!!! I want a sexy male werewolf...as a graduation present :p #hinthint lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited omg you have no idea hurry and and post the next chapter before I just explode!!!!!!!!!!!
Pixx,
DeleteYeah, me too. I'm so stoked about this. Well, I don't know about your graduation pressie though. You'll have to wait till Season 6 to meet the pack.
Thanks so much for reading, this week is pretty hectic for me so I may not have the time to shoot the next update. But if I can, I will.
Oh no. I hope that isn't a high window. I can't remember their place. Devon just dealt with his sister being with a vampire, I cannot imagine what he will feel when he learns of Eloise's condition. The pictures were fantastic, startling clear and brilliant in colour. I loved the waking effects when she was feeling ill. Oh this poor family :( one thing right after another.
ReplyDelete(If you can make use of me, please feel free to.)
Fae,
DeleteThey are on the tenth floor, so the window is quite high. Hopefully she doesn't break any bones on her way down. And I love, love, love your thoughts on Devon. This will crack his whole world wide open.
Thanks for the compliment on the shots, for some reason it takes me less time to shoot Krisis scenes than it does with TF.
It would be Krisis if there wasn't a crisis!
Thanks so much for reading, and I'll def give you a shout. And I have lots of close ups of the transformation poses if you want them?
What!!! I don't believe it! She's a werewolf! I agree with Pixx! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that Eloise is having to go through so much at one time, but I have to say I'm excited about the addition of a werewolf character! I hope though that this change doesn't have a negative effect on her relationship with Devon and Blake.
You keep popping these great surprises on us! Always good!!!
Daisies,
DeleteYes, she's just gone through her first transformation.
Me too, I feel for her, but at the same time so excited for her. It will affect their relationship for sure, but you know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
I'm glad I can still surprise after so many chapters. Thank you so much for all your feedback.
How cool! Didn't see this turn coming. Great way to introduce the weres in your story. I can't wait to see how this will go. Poor Eloise as if she doesn't have enough grieve without turning in a wolf. Hope she doesn't eat Devon :P
ReplyDeleteDutchy, you and Eloise both, she didn't see this coming. Thank you and turning into a wolf is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe it's what she needs to take control of her life again? Oh she will eat him alright (*hint, hint* *wink wink*) after all she's now the big bad wolf!
DeleteThanks so much for reading!
So much for the Starlington/Jones family being normal!
ReplyDeleteThis is cool. I knew the second I saw that "big dog" what could happen, and I love being right! I thought, "Oh dear. We ARE going there aren't we?" hehe.
I'm jealous. You got poses.
Fabulous update/chapter!
They are as close to normal as you can get in Krisis.
DeleteI'm glad you were right!
Jealous about poses? But everyone has those, and if you're referring to the transform poses specifically I think you can talk to Fae about getting the link.
Thank you, it was so much fun to work on this update.
Thanks for reading!
o_o --> o_O --> O_O!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhatatatatat?? Oh dear, ohhhhh dear!
This is bad (Poses were awesome, go Zhip!)... Hmm, makes me wonder who her black-haired-silver-eyed sire is (Please don't let it be a woman... please please please... I SOOOO see hot-guy... please!)
This is gonna hit Devon hard, poor baby!
LMAO @ her sire not being a woman! Who knows, I guess we'll see in Season 6. On the bright side, if it's a woman Devon could probably handle it better.
DeleteThanks for reading!
What a twist! You know when she went out jogging I thought "Yep...something bad is gonna happen." I thought initially it would have been a vampire, maybe even Beau or Joshua lurking about waiting to cause trouble or something. But a wolf? Didn't think that. Color me surprised, and I enjoy being surprised (u-usually) so I am happy with this turn of events. I wonder how Devon and of course Eloise will deal with this but for me it does make her character a lot more fun! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteAeon,
DeleteThank you so much, I'm so happy you seemed to have enjoyed this chapter. I agree, this turn of events has made Eloise's character all the more interesting!
Wow, such an amazing turn of events!!! Can't wait for more :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading angiebeno!
DeleteWow! Such an amazing chapter Valpre! Really loved the poses, and although at first I was surprised to see the wolf (or werewolf) by the end of the chapter I couldn't help thinking that Eloise's transformation could turn out to be a good thing after all. Now she can protect the people she loves. And as Zhippidy said, I wonder how Devon is going to cope, because most people around him are vampires, and now werewolves! Loved this new chapter!
ReplyDeleteAngel,
DeleteThank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Yes, Fae did an amazing job with the poses. This certainly complicates things for Devon, hopefully they can work through this together.
~ Just what is a girl supposed to do?She has been through so much,I hope Eloise can hold it together!I think this is the last straw!
ReplyDelete~ She tried to kill herself jumping from the top floor of their apartment building!WHAT?????
~ I love this new twist to the story!
~ Sorry it is short!(You know what I think anyway!LOL!)
~ Loved it,MORE,when you can!Pretty Please!(",)
Karima,
Delete-You know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
-She didn't try to kill herself, she just had to get out of there, she couldn't handle the shock and the last thing she wanted was for Devon to find her like that.
-I'm glad you love it.
-No problem, short is good!
Thanks for reading and all your feedback.
That was definitely one thing I was not expecting! I expected dog attack & hospitalization, or worse.. But I was thoroughly surprised! I guess there is more than one reason to postpone the wedding now! She just jumped out of the window though... They live on the ground floor right? Well done Val, looking forward to see how this develops!
ReplyDeleteQK,
DeleteYes, her transformation was unexpected, and that's true, they have a lot of reasons now to postpone the wedding. No, they live on the tenth floor. Thank you, there'll be an update later today.
Thanks for reading!
*SCREAMING*
ReplyDeleteI WAS NOT EVEN EXPECTING THAT AT ALL WHATSOEVER OMG VAL WHAT?!!!? I mean, I figured that dog was no ordinary dog, but seriously, WEREWOLF!? I can't even begin to describe my shock im just beyond stunned befuzzeledment like woah. I guessed maybe the dog had rabies, and she was ill, but werewolf!?
I kinda love it though in some obscure way... It's all pretty fab val. I like it when you go with the shock card its SO epical! MADNESS VAL MADNESS! I feel unhinged, i just couldn't see that coming at all!
I felt so bad for her this chapter, and then i can't even imagine how much worse she's feeling now... She must be feeling so so terrible, and I just wanna cry for her... She just lost her dad, and she's postponing the wedding (I'm glad that she is, it's for the best) and now she's a werewolf! All I could think was, after it took so long for Devon to get used to vampires, he's got his wife turning into a werewolf! @_@
Those poses are really awesome, Fae's super talented. :) Off to read the next chapter!
Eni,
DeleteI totally love your crazy reactions, they make writing so worth it, and it's so great to see you as excited as I am about this storyline, it really means a lot to me that you're still reading it after so many seasons.
I think the werewolf story-line was unexpected for a lot of people, but I did say at the start of this season that Krisis is moving back to paranormal. I'm excited for Eloise's character, I needed to grow her more, and move her out of her comfort zone.
It's a lot for her to go through at once, but in the coming chapters she'll learn she's much stronger than she thinks. And you are right to be concerned about Dev's state of mind, he's still not completely receptive to the idea of vampires.
I agree, Fae is super talented.
Thanks for reading!
Shit! Who in the city near them is a werewolf and since they turned her into one was it random or someone else have something out for the family?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how she's going to manage to deal with this and her family. I'm wondering if she will even tell Devon, but she has to right?
This is karazy!~...ednez~
The attack was random, luckily there's no unknown enemy who has it for the family. It doesn't make it any less tragic I guess.
DeleteSooner or later she'll have to tell Dev, this is too huge to keep to herself.
Thanks for reading!
Although I have been reading and following your story but this one was the bomb! Werewolves?!! Oh my gosh! This is really exciting and take note that I'm in the office. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, thank you so much for giving Krisis a chance. Your comment made me smile, and I hope you did not get into trouble at work. Thanks for reading and commenting.
