Bridgeport, present day...
Leigh felt the dark cloud of tension as soon as she opened her eyes . But she didn’t think much of it; she just assumed it was the residual strain from last night. Ariel hadn’t wanted Krisis anywhere near her last night; every time he’d approached her she’d screamed blue murder and no matter how hard he’d tried to get through to her, he couldn’t. In the end Leigh had politely asked him to stay out of the nursery and she’d spent the night there, on the floor.
She slowly dragged herself from her sleeping bag now, yawning and stretching at the same time.
“Good Morning, where are the kids? Where’s Krisis?” She asked Michaela as she passed her in the hallway. Her niece tried to stop her, mumbling something unintelligible.
When she checked the kitchen and didn’t find Patty or the kids, Leigh decided to go find Krisis, they were obviously with him. He was in the study, with Jessica Rubin, his lawyer, and K-Infinity’s management. The triplets and Lily were nowhere in sight.
Their conversation halted as soon as they saw her hovering at the door. Jessica suddenly busied herself with the legal brief on her lap, Mark and Stanley seemed captivated with the chess pieces in front of them, and Krisis looked at everything but her.
“What’s going on? Where are the kids” Leigh asked. If she’d thought the tension around the house was bad, it was worse in here, she could almost taste it at the back of her throat.
“I’m so sorry,” Krisis pulled her in his arms and held her.
Leigh was confused, more so when the feeling of dread rose from her tummy and crept up to her heart.
“Where are the kids?” she asked him again, trying her best not to freak out at seeing him freak out.
“They are with Krimsyn and J.D.” he explained.
“Why?” Leigh asked.
For the first time in their relationship Krisis couldn’t meet her eyes as he wordlessly handed her the newspaper.
Her first reaction was to laugh when she glanced at the front page of Dirt, one of the sleaziest tabloids around.
It had obviously happened in the past when she wasn’t in his life. It was nothing for her to worry about.
She was about to dismiss the article and forget she’d ever seen it when she caught the date on the bottom right hand corner of the picture. It was the After Dark Release Party.
While she was heavily pregnant with the triplets, his kids, he’d fucked around backstage, and gotten head from a pretty brunette, while two blonds touched each other provocatively, pleasing him and whoever had taken the pictures.
Tears of hurt and anger and humiliation stung her eyes. But no matter how much she wanted to cry, she wouldn’t.
“Tell me that’s not true.” Her voice was surprisingly steady.
“It’s not.” Krisis told her. He tried to reach for her, but she put up her hands.
“Which part?” She asked him. Jessica and the others excused themselves then, they clearly needed some privacy.
“The date on the picture and everything else in the article.”
“But the pictures are?” She demanded.
“Yes. I’m sorry,” he apologized.
“My God, Krisis!” She finally broke down and cried. Not for herself, but for Ariel. It all made sense now, the triplets’ crabbiness last night. Ariel had obviously foreseen this, and her anger had trickled down to her siblings. That’s why they were all furious with Krisis and didn’t want him anywhere near them last night.
Leigh wondered how much of it her daughter had seen, she hoped her visions weren’t as graphic as the picture.
“I’ve never cheated on you. It happened a long time ago. Before we met. Before the kids. I’m sorry, please we’ll fix this. Jessica will file a lawsuit. It will all work out, I promise.” Krisis stammered and stuttered and Leigh brushed him off.
“No fucking law suit will fix this. Ariel has seen it. She’s picked up on this shit. The damage is done.”
“No, Ariel didn’t see this. She was angry with me because she knew I was going to hurt you today, but she didn’t know how or why. I talked to her before they left,” Krisis explained.
Relief washed over her when she heard this. She said a silent prayer of thanks, grateful that their daughter had not been exposed to his indecent behavior.
Krisis then explained that the shot (along with a series of others which hadn’t made the rounds yet) was taken at an album release party a few years ago at the Crypt, the same venue After Dark was launched, making it easy for whoever had leaked the photos to add the date and make it seem like it was recent.
“What? So you think this is some kind of conspiracy? Who has the time to Photoshop dates in Krisis? Who?” Leigh screamed at him.
“I don’t know. I don’t know okay. But I’m telling you the truth. I didn’t fuck around with anyone while you were pregnant. What do you take me for?” He growled back at her.
Leigh recoiled from his anger and cried some more on the couch. For the second time that morning she felt grateful. This time she was glad their kids were not around to witness them butcher each other like this.
“Think back to that night, I wasn’t wearing that. Besides when would I have had time to cheat on you? I stayed with you the whole night; the only time I left your side was when we had to perform,” he tried to make her see what was glaringly obvious.
But Leigh still looked very angry. Their kids, in a few years’ time, would come across this clip someday, or something worse and there was nothing she could do to spare them the embarrassment and shame, nothing to protect them.
But Leigh still looked very angry. Their kids, in a few years’ time, would come across this clip someday, or something worse and there was nothing she could do to spare them the embarrassment and shame, nothing to protect them.
“I’m sorry. And if there’s a way I could prevent things from my past from coming up, I would.” He knelt in front of her and forced her to look at him. “I’d never do anything to hurt you. I love you, Leigh. You and the kids are all that matter to me. I’ll quit the band if it means protecting you and the kids.”
Leigh still couldn’t look at him. But Krisis, a little unnerved by her silence, carried on pleading with her, “I understand you’re angry, you have every right to be. But I need you Leigh, please don’t shut me out. Not now!”
Even if she’d wanted to after this, she couldn’t say no to his heartfelt pleas. She loved him, and she knew he was telling the truth about everything.
“Okay. How do we fix this?” She sighed tearfully…
An hour later, with Natalie’s help, Krisis and Leigh addressed the reporters outside their home.
In their joint statement they apologized to their family and friends, and to his fans. They acknowledged his dalliances in the past, but vehemently denied the allegations that he had cheated on Leigh while she was pregnant. They pointed out that the pictures were taken a few years ago, at a private function, obviously one of the people there, someone he’d considered a friend, had abused his trust, and leaked the photos.
Krisis politely asked the reporters to respect their privacy while they worked through this minor setback in their relationship and he assured everyone that he and Leigh remained committed to each other and to raising their children.
At 17:00pm when Carmen tuned in to VMC Krisis and Leigh’s joint statement was the last thing she’d expected to see.
“That bitch!” She screamed at the empty room and hurled her tub of ice-cream at the TV, instantly killing off Krisis and Leigh’s taunting faces.
“No!” She shrieked like a banshee as she overturned every piece of furniture in her tiny room.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to end.
Leigh was supposed to dump Krisis, leaving herself open and vulnerable to her attack. Or better yet, she was supposed to vanish off the face of the earth and leave her to nurse Krisis’ broken heart.
It had seemed so easy when she’d altered the photos on the memory card Beau had given her. In her mind, the pictures were supposed to drive a wedge between Leigh and Krisis, and destroy whatever chances they had of staying together.
For the first time in years Carmen cried. She couldn’t believe that a week of digitally altering images and hounding journalists to publish the story had been in vain.
“No. It’s! Not! Fair!” She shrieked again.
The smell of failure came off of her in sickening waves. And she couldn’t stand it. She had to get rid of it before it consumed her completely.
She ran to the bathroom and took out her knife from its usual place. This time she didn’t stop at just cutting herself, she flayed bits and pieces of her skin from parts of her body she thought the smell of failure was radiating from the most…

Carmen, Carmen, Carmen...It was a good try but it will take more than that although this time Leigh was pushed a little further to the edge. I understand her hurt about the kids possibly seeing this at some later time. Things like that stay around forever.
ReplyDeleteShe did try didn't she? True, Leigh was pushed a little too far, but thankfully Krisis was able to get through to her. Thanks for reading.
Delete~ I really do understand Leigh's hurt for the children,I am so glad that Krisis talked too Ariel, before they took them all to his sisters, safest place to be with all the buzz & paparazzi outside, poor Leigh, more hurt, because she has a famous husband!
ReplyDelete~ Carmen,She more or less punished herself because she failed!I would have got the message by now..........he is not interested in you, move on,but this is slightly of kilter Carmen,we are talking about here!
~ Love it,I know there is more............. tomorrow!(",)
-I also feel for Leigh and I can understand her hurt and anger, it's not for herself but for their kids. At the same time though Krisis has been around longer than her and it doesn't help that he's a rockstar, things from his past will come up unfortunately, it can't be helped. Carmen though acted recklessly.
Delete-True, her plan backfired on her because Krisis and Leigh now seem more committed to each other. I agree, any normal person with half the issues Carmen has would have gotten the hint by now.
-Yay, I'm so excited about the next two chapters, particularly because a new story-line is introduced.
Thanks so much for reading Aussie.
OMG, that is so sick. I feel kinda sad for her. She really needs help. On the other side she scares me. This can't mean anything good for Leigh. Want more!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat Carmen did in this chapter is really nothing compared to what she can do.
DeleteThanks so much for reading!
As much as i love her, i have to say that Leigh has to toughen up a bit... Krisis has been a rock star since before she came along and must have a very colorful past. I am glad they made a united front. It will take more than a couple photoshopped pictures to tear them apart!
ReplyDeletePoor Carmen... i really do feel bad for her, she's so sick and hurting so bad.
Kelly,
DeleteI totally agree with you on Leigh, she does need to toughen up. She knew she was getting involved with someone famous, and Krisis has been around longer than her, and he's racked up a reputation as rockstar so his past is bound to crop up. At the same time though I can understand her hurt and anger, if it was just her she'd probably take it, but they have kids now and it's really them she's heartbroken for. Exactly, they've been through much worse in the past and they still stayed together. If anything, this incident might just have brought them closer.
I feel for Carmen too, she's really broken inside, and Beau still takes advantage of her and plays on her desires.
Thanks for reading.
At first, I was mad as fire at Krisis, but then I said it had to be a trick. He wouldn't do that to Leigh! I'm so glad that I was right and that she believed him too. Poor Ariel! It's good that she didn't see any details of what happened.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of words to describe Carmen! That was one of the lowest things that she could do!
I wonder what her evil mind will come up with next!
Loving this, Val!
Nedra,
DeleteI don't know why, but I laughed so hard when I read the first part of your comment. So Carmen tricked you too? LMAO. Seriously though, I'm glad Krisis, or rather the photo-shopped pictures redeemed him in your eyes. And it's true about Ariel, Leigh would have been devastated if her visions were graphic and I don't think they would have been able to get past this if they were.
Agreed, it was low and reckless and she didn't think about the kids of the man she claims to "love" so much when she messed with those pictures.
I think this was the last of her grand schemes for a while at least. Yeah, the next few chapters the storyline focuses on Leigh, Krisis and Thornton. So no more crazy for a while.
Thanks for reading and it makes me so happy to know you're loving the updates.
This story is officially full of psychos...and they all attach themselves to Beau
ReplyDeletePixx, I think Beau attaches himself to them, and you know what they say, birds of the feather flock together.
DeleteThanks for reading!
I was getting worried that someone stole the triplets. Scary.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate that the pictures were used, but given Carmen's twisted thoughts, that is really nothing compared to what she has the capability of doing. She is a very unstable girl. Beau should worry about her a bit for himself and his little family. Can't wait to read more. Loved it. :)
Fae,
DeleteLOL. Really? Damn, now that you mention it, that could have worked in terms of building suspense, but with Leigh's bodyguards and the two men permanently on site, I don't know how the would be kidnappers could have taken the kids out of the house.
I agree, it's unfortunate, sad and reckless of Carmen, but she's capable of so much worse, after all she did go to prison for attempted murder.
Very true on Beau, if only he can heed your warnings.
Thanks so much for reading!
Wow, Carmen thought that would really work. When Leigh stopped and thought about that night clearly she knew he was being honest.
ReplyDeleteBeau did this on purpose but he will now she it has back fired and Leigh will be more protected than ever cos they know someone is up to something!!
Lckygrl,
DeleteYep, she really thought it would work. True, a little thinking on Leigh's part was all she needed to know he was telling the truth.
Do you have some juju I don't know about, because the next chapter touches on everything you've mentioned so far?
Thanks for reading!
Joshua, Beau and Carmen....oh my! These three are quite the bunch of villians aren't they? I love how it's buidling to up to what i can only imagine will be an amazing climax :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, they are the terrible three. Thanks for reading!
DeleteWow, so glad Leigh was able to see through her hurt and realize that the pictures had been altered. Sounds like Carmen is unraveling quickly, hate to see what she'll do next!
ReplyDeleteShe is unraveling very quickly and I'd hate to be Leigh when she finally reaches breaking point. Leigh just needed to calm down for a sec to realize the truth, but just cos something is true, it doesn't make the hurt any less. Thanks for all your support, always.
DeleteSo, Carmen's at it again... Well thank goodness she failed, if this keeps up she'll end up putting herself in the hospital from blood loss. On another note, Leigh really should work on her temper & fits. She knows his career & she knows he has a past, yet she constantly "jumps the gun" and assumes he's unfaithful without hesitation. Granted, I'm grateful she noticed the error and calmed down, but she needs to learn to think first and assume second. Not the other way around. Solid chapter Valpre.
ReplyDeleteI don"t know why but your comment about Carnen ending up in hospital made me laugh. I could just see her in my head. You're right about Leigh, she does need to trust Krisis more, but I can also see why she's angry, it's not just about the two of them anymore, they have four littles they need to protect. Thanks for reading.
