95. Pride

Bridgeport, present day...

The room, bathed in total darkness, matched his black mood. He had been sitting there for some time, waiting for her arrival, thinking about the last few weeks. Thinking about his fallout with Krimsyn and J.D. earlier that day, and why it happened.

Everything led back to Jacqueline…

“I told you I’d find Leigh,” Krisis began when Jacqueline walked in, pushing Lily’s stroller in front of her.

“I’m glad,” Jacqueline replied. But he knew she was far from being glad. The self satisfied smirk she’d worn on her face for the past few weeks was gone now. Krisis could almost taste her panic and fear.

“He leapt from the couch. His sudden movement elicited a gasp from Jacqueline, and she backed herself into a wall. She was trapped, couldn’t dash for safety, she was too far from the front door.

“Relax, if I was going to kill you, I would have by now,” he informed her coolly as he picked up his daughter from her pram. He snuggled her for a while, dropping a few kisses in between her happy chuckles, before taking her upstairs to her crib.

Half an hour later, when he came back into the living room, Jacqueline was still there. She sat defiantly on the couch, refusing to walk away.

“I want the truth Jacqueline. Everything. I think I have an idea of what went on, but I need you to clarify a few things. You owe me that much! You robbed me of two precious months with Leigh. Weeks I’ll never get back.” Krisis turned off the TV, and looked at her expectantly. He was surprised when she conceded without putting up a fight. Her voice rose with each passing minute, and her pupils were dilated with excitement as she recounted her devious scheme.

“Don’t you see I did it for us, Krisis? I love you, and I knew in time you’d love me back again, you’d realize you and I are meant to be together. Leigh doesn’t deserve you!” Jacqueline finished off her explanation, a glazed look in her eyes.

“You’re out of your mind! I’ve never loved you…It was a business transaction, and it meant nothing to me!” Krisis glared at her, hating every moment he was forced to spend in her company.

 “We have a child. You love Lily. So you must love me too!” Jacqueline pressed on, sinking deeper into denial. He hoped there was a cure for her delusions.

“I love Lily…Not you! You blackmailed me, and compelled Leigh into leaving me, what makes you think I’d love you? What makes you think I’d want to be with someone like you?” This time he lost it. He reached for her, and in that blind moment of rage, he forgot everything as he throttled the life from her.

“What does she have that I don’t? Look at me! I’m gorgeous. I’m a prominent doctor, I’m a catch Krisis Frost, and that human has NOTHING on me! I am every guy’s dream, in and out of bed. And your human is a fucking loser, a weak pathetic loser I nursed back to health. You’re out of your mind for even thinking about going after her!” Jacqueline croaked when he finally let her go, her green eyes dark with rage and fear.

He ignored her outburst. She was the most delusional, arrogant bitch he’d ever fucked, and if they didn’t have a child together, he would have told her exactly what he thought of her. But for Lily’s sake he held back on his expansive vocab of cuss words.

“I promised to kill you. Lord knows I should, after everything you’ve done. And if it wasn’t for Lily, I would do it in a heartbeat. But that little girl needs both her parents. Because of her, I’ll spare your life. But let me not be misunderstood Jacqueline, we are done. My people will be in contact with yours to work out a custody agreement. I want nothing to do with you going forward.” He motioned for her to get the hell out of his house.

“This isn’t over, Krisis! Leigh doesn’t deserve you!” She threw over her shoulder as she left the room. He stared after her, shaking his head, even when she was caught out she still found it hard to accept defeat, she was too proud to admit she’d lost, and her plan to tear him and Leigh apart had not worked.

She always had to have the last word…

Note: This was supposed to be posted together with prompt 60. Complicated, but the shots were not yet ready because I was still searching for a baby carrier :( Anyway, hope this wasn't too confusing or random.
